It looks like Sarah Phelps playing a recast Carol Jackson.
Everything points towards it being a recast Michelle Fowler.

Its pathetic really how everyone clings on to a character who hasn't been needed for a long time. Whenever there is an air of mystery it must be Michelle Fowler returning.
Who killed Lucy? Must be Michelle Fowler returning. Will Ronnie die? Maybe she dies and Michelle returns. Are Kat and Alfie returning? Maybe they will return with Michelle. What happens to Lee? Maybe Michelle returns and he goes with her. Really pathetic. Michelle was a huge character in her day and her absence from family events has always been conspicuous. I haven't seen some of those posts but I think calling people pathetic for posting that type of thing is a tad strong. |

Normally I don't give any credence to threads like this, but I can't help but feel that there's some decent evidence this time which points towards Michelle resurfacing with a new head. We've had a few mentions of her over the past few months, and I imagine Mark Jr will return in due course if it is Michelle. There's also something about the look on Ian and Martin's faces in that screenshot which suggests that she's more than just a 'random' who's turned up for the day. If she was, why not list the character in the credits?

Michelle is always considered legendary and in many ways she is, but recasts have worked well over the years. With Pauline, Arthur and Mark no longer in the show, it's only Letitia and Steve as Sharon and Phil and June Brown who the original actress shared scenes with.
I doubt it is a recast Michelle. It would be funny if it's just a random - a carer for Jane or something similar - causing all this intrigue. |

That woman in the picture looks like the woman who played Jo Masters in The Bill?

We're having a rebuilding of the Beales and Fowlers with Stacey, Martin and Kathy all being hugely improved under SOC, plus the slow potential redemption of Jane and Ian. Six months after Mark visited and returned to the States, it's quite possible that Michelle's interest in visiting would be spiked, even allowing for all the missed opportunities in the past. There's a lot to catch up on, plus meeting her sister-in-law and the kids and Jane. She'll presumably know about Phil's health, Bobby's incarceration, Jane's paralysis, Kathy's return from the dead etc as no doubt Martin/Sharon/Ian are in touch by email or Skype. If she's got a decent job and has the cash to spend, a cheap flight and a few days in London isn't hard to arrange. I'd accept a Michelle with a new head, after all it's been twenty years and she must now be approaching 50, so is bound to have changed. It would be interesting to see what she's been up to in all that time (and whether she's developed an American accent ).

If the BBC and SOC are trying to run EE into the ground they are going the wrong way about it. EE is the best it has been in a long while, back to the heydays of the 80's

No it's not. The 80s had great characters. Can't really say the same nowadays. Unless SOC is going to create phenomenal characters in the near future but I highly doubt it!

I saw the trailer last night but I didn't think it could be potentially Michelle. Hmm, do we really need the character back? Sue Tully was Michelle and it's hard to imagine someone else playing her. NuMichelle and Sharon together as best mates would be weird because the actress (if she is playing Michelle) has never shared any screentime with Letitia. Although it'd be great to see Michelle with the Fowlers again.

While a lot of people hark back to the 80s characters, it has to be remembered that less was happening, relatively speaking, as there was only two episodes a week and that all the characters were new so they didn't have ten, twenty, thirty years of baggage like we have with Sharon, Ian, Phil, Dot, Max, Denise etc now. All the original characters were properly defined and had identifiable, well-written, consistent personalities from the start. Hopefully, by SOC delaying introducing new characters, when they do arrive, they will be fully prepared in the same way. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with characters having history but in recent years they seem to have arrived for a given reason then, got stuck in limbo because no-one gave any thought to their subsequent development or purpose. I sense that SOC doesn't work like that. |

I've been looking at photos of Sue Tully and Sally Rogers and I think Sally could easily pass looks wise as an older Michelle
https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgu...69&vet=1&w=768 http://iv1.lisimg.com/image/664899/5...lly-rogers.jpg What do you guys think? I personally don't like the idea of a recast of such an iconic character but I do think Sally Rogers could possibly do the role justice Look at the fourth photo of Sue Tully and compare to Sally |

Sue Tully was Michelle
Which brings me to the point that it was twenty years ago. Most of EE's audience wouldn't even remember Michelle or Sue Tully in the role. In fact the recast would be incredibly easy. Not to mention Sue Tully wasn't a very good actress most of the time. If EE can withstand DTC messing with the shows history it could withstand a Michelle recast. Though personally I don't feel she's needed and she's a character best left in the past. If Sue Tully couldn't be bothered making a guest appearance for the big reveal her return now would be pointless. |

I'm loving EastEnders at the moment. |
