I do remember the original Michelle, & I have no problem recasting her. I think they need to either recast her, or else, have Martin get a call saying his sister died suddenly.
Other recasts have worked. |

If Michelle (played by Sue Tully only) were to return - I may start watching regularly again. As it is - I can't see it happening. Susan Tully has carved out a brilliant career for herself as a director and can't see why she'd want to come back. Although I'm no great fan of Eastenders (especially right now when it seems to be a bit meh at best) I have immense respect for Susan Tully.

That's why I'd only watch it if the character were played by Susan Tully. A re-cast wouldn't make me start watching it again.

I'm totally against recasts but at the same time Michelle has been away long enough to be a believable recast.

You don't have to read them though. You could just ignore them but you choose to read them.

Well it's kind of hard to ignore it when i'm scrolling down the list of thread titles in the main menu and see one. Other than that if I don't want to read the actual posts then I just don't usually. I can't exactly read the forum with my eyes shur can I?

OK so you can't ignore the thread titles. But why did you come into the thread and read the posts this time? Was it just to complain?
'Bring back so and so threads' can get a bit tedious but so can people like myself complaining about those threads I guess.

I think this thread is different to the usual 'Would you recast Michelle Fowler?'
We have an unknown female character seen with the Fowlers and Ian on Christmas Day. A trailer suspiciously pulled from Youtube. A recent scene of Sharon speaking with Michelle on the phone. A few months back the biggest secret in the history of the show was revealed. Would this recast have been better timed for the Mark reveal? Yes but maybe DTC didn't want to make that decision. Sean O'Connor could be different. Whatever didn't happen in the past under previous executive producers is irrelevant. I think Michelle would slot into the new Fowler house nicely. It's the closest they're going to get to replicating a Fowler matriarch role to echo the likes of Pauline or Lou Beale. |

I know for some Michelle's not that significant due to how long she been away but timing is everything, bringing a character re-cast back after 21 years, its a risk and I didn't envision it as one of the first big casting news from SOC. All this speculation, it be funny if the woman in question is literally just a extra

Axing Ronnie and bringing back a recasted Michelle! Is SOC for real? Why is the BBC determined to turn this once good show into a laughing stock by running it into the ground completely?
I agree, even Mr. Sunnydays who is not an avid fan of soaps said, this show is all over the place now... |

Its pathetic really how everyone clings on to a character who hasn't been needed for a long time. Whenever there is an air of mystery it must be Michelle Fowler returning.
Who killed Lucy? Must be Michelle Fowler returning. Will Ronnie die? Maybe she dies and Michelle returns. Are Kat and Alfie returning? Maybe they will return with Michelle. What happens to Lee? Maybe Michelle returns and he goes with her. Really pathetic. In the exact same way people were obsessed with Kathy returning and that she would singlehandedly define the show for a new era... oh and the Mark Junior reveal would be the best story in the history of soaps... |

Its one big red herring. Would the bbc really put new Michelle on in a trailer ? Its got everyone talking and speculating which is what they want. Its not her and it will turn out to be one big damp squib.

It would be a bold move if its true. Michelle was an original character involved in some big stories. With the right actress it may not be too jarring, shes been away for so long that i can accept her personality changing over the years. The issue will be the actressed chemistry with Ian, Sharon and Martin as its clear that they are still in contact with her.
From a storyline perspective it could be interesting. But while i do like the Mitchells and Beales their family tree is so convoluted. I think id prefer new stand alone characters rather than a recast. But if be prepared to give Nuchelle a chance if it does turn out to be true. |

I don't really see the point in recasting Michelle. I don't even think Michelle is the type of character EastEnders is lacking or needs right now. I'm pretty indifferent to this news really.

Apparently the original trailer has now been reinstated but with the clip in question removed and replaced with a clip from Mrs Brown. It seems that there really could be something afoot here. I think we should keep our ears peeled for any more Michelle references that might 'innocently' crop up in the next few episodes.
Re. The possibility of it being Jenna Russell, I notice from pictures that she had her hair cut short earlier in the year, and also that she was in the play Grey Gardens with Aaron Sidwell at the same time. Maybe someone from EE casting saw Aaron in the play and was also taken with her performance. However, it may be that SOC is some kind of evil genius and this is all one huge double bluff to get us tuning in over Christmas! |

See I think the screenshot looks awfully similar to Nicola Stephenson, who funnily enough joked back in June about joining Eastenders on Twitter. But surely she wouldn't be playing Michelle? They look nothing alike and Nicola is Northern (I think)!

Looks like it's Jenna Russell, she started follow Annette Badland the same time Eastenders were filming the Christmas episodes.
