I think Kevin's done remarkably well with his partners and should be given credit for how he's helped them.
The only clear potential winner (as opposed to finalist) he's had was Frankie. But she was pregnant right at the end of the competition and so they understandably played it safe cutting out all the lifts etc from her routines. Given that she hadn't announced her pregnancy whilst the series was on, it just made her seem less exciting than the other finalists and so she got forgotten about. Of the other three competitors, they've all been slightly older women and less obvious winners - although very strong. Susanna Reid was a very entertaining contestant who did miles better than was expected on personality, showmanship and the Kevin factor. She didn't have the technique or training to quite win though and in the final that showed through. Kellie was Kevin's best partner in terms of pushing technique and performance and they could have won if they hadn't been in the same year as Jay. Kevin pushed Kellie all the way to almost winning last year and getting the judges to say they were the best. With Louise, Kevin has a contestant who had a strong natural dance base but lacked showmanship. Louise is a very capable group dancer but does not have the personality of being the lead dancer which both Ore and Danny had. Kevin did really well at helping Louise to develop presence on the stage and confidence to be the lead- she was miles better at the end of the competition than the start with this; her technique was always great- but she never quite hit a dance with the attack of 'I want to win". So, actually, I don't think Kevin's had an obvious winner going into the final. I think it would be interesting to see him with a true duffer but I also wouldn't mind seeing him try again with someone who was a more obvious winner, Kellie was his perfect partner, suited his choreography and could play the part he wanted her to. This year Anastacia should have been with Gorka, Tamika with Kevin and Louise with Brendan. Kevin really does need the loud in your face partners to suit his style. |

He is just not that likeable. The proof is there- four finals and no win.
He has to work on his public image. Maybe as someone suggested lower his profile and try to calm down and to get in people's charming books. It is shocking how people like Gleb and Gorka come and are instant faves from year 1. |

He suffered from a couple of things .....
He is seen as a producers pet - getting contenders (if not potential winners) every year since he started on the show; He and his partner are often felt by the public to be treated leniently by the judges - their errors are ignored or minimised whilst others are clobbered for doing the same thing; He has had two Marmite partners (Susanna and Kellie) who brought out the absolute worst in him.... they came across as big headed and arrogant thinking they were better than they were the other two were quieter, but both were totally outshone in the final by those who really wanted the win and went for it..... and it helped that they were more popular pairings! His choreography is waaaay too manic in the faster dances.... he needs to chill and dance to his partners level..... he can be as flash as he likes in the pro dances, but the main show is about the celeb - not him! Basically he needs to be given a real duffer next year if he is back - the Ann Widdecombe, Edwina Currie, or Esther Rantzen type and be seen to nurture them as Anton has always done with his duffers...... and he needs to rein back the personality a bit - his attention seeking in the line up and the Clauditorium are OTT, and he also needs to rein in his wife too - her camera hogging antics don't really help him either...... |

His showdance was literally forgettable for me. I remember the mirror, the drums, but nothing of Kevin's dance. He seems to update the classic dances a lot. Proved by years, improved by Kevin Clifton, the result almost uniformly being a big resounding meh. Anything high energy turns out manic instead. Even costumes of his partners are often "improved". Was it Kellie who got to wear a proper ballroom dress only near the very end? It's all part of the show that I like to watch and Kevin doesn't do that. I don't like him/ his work because of that.

I actually feel more sorry for Kevin than Oti. This was Kevin's fourth final and he still didn't manage to win. From what I have seen, not many people are really talking about Louise and Kevin. Plus his sister comes along and wins her first final. No matter how proud he is of her, he must be disappointed. At least with Danny and Oti, there was a lot of talk about how they should have won and positive comments about her choreography. I still think that he should get a duffer next year. At least in that situation, he won't have any hopes about reaching the final.

Die his hair black, change his name to something exotic (you can't get less romantic than Kevin), grow 4 inches and get a ringer contestant under 30.

Although I can't say that I particularly enjoy Kevin's style of dancing (way too over the top for me and doesn't tone down to match his partner), I do feel that the producers really haven't helped his cause. Right from his first series, we had the 'Kevin from Grimsby' rammed down our throats. Then the sibling rivalry with Jo plus 'never been in a dance off'. Then three finals on the trot, followed by four finals on the trot which the viewers were reminded about at every possible opportunity. He needs to be allowed to take a step back without the audience being force-fed how much we are supposed to love him.
(and I agree - stop the kick, the fist bumps, the falling on the floor when announced as safe....) |

Yes, we've had four years of Kevin. Give us a break by giving him a duffer (he'll only be background then but boy ... wasn't Karen annoying as background this year? So OTT ... through boredom I suppose or limelight deficit disorder
)He's a nice person but too much of him is like too much cake ... you start feeling nauseous and grumpy. Stop shoving him down our throats. We know he's from Grimsby. I don't even know where Anton's from ... never heard it mentioned let alone some of the infinitely more interesting places that the other pro dancers come from. You get the feeling though that this will just ramp up 'operation Kevin to win' ... they're probably in talks with Kate Middleton as we speak! (Kate's got her eye on Gorka though )

I think Kevin has definitely suffered from overexposure - and 4 consecutive years of dancing, featuring on EVERY episode of the show will do that! Other pros have had years where they disappeared in the first few weeks due to an early exit, and they come back into the competition the next time round 'fresh' in people's eyes. Kevin has basically never had that, since his very first appearance on the show.
Without question, he needs to get a non-starter next year - I know people will moan either way, but a genuine duffer will allow him to have a lower profile year, spend some time on ITT appearing very occasionally in the pro-challenge and similar. Then, if he does get a young, able dancer the following year, people are far less likely to begrudge his good fortune in reaching another final, or at least getting close. BTW, if anyone is due for the 'ringers' next year, it's Karen Clifton - given just how badly her season ended. I wonder if people will come down hard on one of the Cliftons getting a contender, if it's Karen that is the one benefiting? After her valiant efforts with Jeremy Vine, and then her hopes of a good long run, with an able dancer lost this time, IMO she is absolutely deserving of some young, super-fit and able dance prospect! Max Whitlock for Karen next year?!!!

After 2 male celeb wins on the trot, next year will be A Year of the Woman. Any male celeb with ambitions of winning would do well to give it a year or so.

Completely and this could work in Kev's favour. That said they didn't seem to push Jay much after two female wins on the trot.

I don't see why Kev should stop his kick at the beginning - it is literally a moment at the start of a show
As for comments of his actions in the Clauditorium Kevin is more often than not at the back - he is one of the least pros front and centre. Despite what is said on here besides Frankie Kevin has not had an out and out contender just reasonably able partners so to get the like of Susannah and Louise to final was an accomplishment in itself - he was never going to win agaiinst Danny/ore with Louise she just did not express the dance enough, last year Jay was a runnaway winner from a few weeks in I hope he does get a less able celeb next year if only to stop the moans on social media |

I think he failed this final because all his dances seemed to be the same. Probably very arty and clever, but not like Ore's which were all full of joy.
