Delivered to who / where, was it signed for or was it a "left in porch"... "left behind gate" "left with neighbour"... etc etc...?

Ebay purchase? If legitimately not delivered and you don't have the item the problem is Hermes' and/or the seller's to sort, open an 'item not delivered' resolution case, you are protected. The loss is not yours to swallow.

I used to operate a full on online business a few years ago and have in the past used Hermes extensively, no problems at all (don't know what they are like now though).

Yep, they delivered something to me yesterday according to e-mail, thankfully my neighbour 2 floors down actually took it and put a note through my door, as Hermes don't say where they delivered it to on their e-mails.

A friend ordered a couple of items from a well know department store, and 3 or 4 days later, one item was delivered by Hermes.
Couple of days later, she tracked the other item, and Hermes had it down as delivered at 17.33, signed for by a neighbour.
She was at home all that day, so she knew that the faux delivery had not taken place.
She informed the store from which she'd placed the order, and they said that an error had been made, the item had been returned to Hermes depot, and would be delivered within 48 hours, she refused, citing a lack of trust in Hermes and collected it from the store,

I trust our Hermes guy, he's great generally.

I don't trust Amazon deliveries though, they have dumped orders twice outside my main building entrance (it's a buzz-in system) this winter. Anybody could have stolen them, fortunately good neighbours have brought them in.

Hermes have just delivered a parcel to a neighbour I don't talk to and have actually fallen out with!

They had no right to do this.

They're a bunch of robbing b'stards!

I had the same problem when I ordered a DVD player once. The driver claimed it had been delivered and the company took their word and rufesed to refund me. Hermes wouldn't help despite because it was signed for, but they wouldn't say where and the signature was spelled wrong and looked nothing like mine!

Yes they do have a right to do that. If the service specified by the sender is one where it can be left with a neighbour then Hermes have done nothing wrong. The better question is why did the neighbour take it when they had fallen out with you?

They should be providing you with a description of the house or place they delivered it to. Failing that the driver should be returning to wherever they delivered it. Not uncommon for drivers to deliver to the wrong house, similarly named streets etc.

Don't worry, it'll all be automated in a few years. Then people will complain about the lack of jobs.

They're terrible. I've stoped buying stuff from merchants who use them.

Have the items delivered to your nearest shop instead, or your nearest newsagent that does the collection service, many of them do now. ParcelShop it's called. https://www.myhermes.co.uk/parcelshop-finder.html

Slightly off topic but

Aren't the Hermes couriers all on zero hrs contracts and the company facing an HMRC investigation as the drivers end up with less than the min wage /using the cover of "self-employment"?

I've stopped using them, always check the merchants delivery method and select Royal Mail, but then my posties here are totally trustworthy.

Did Hermes know you'd fallen out with the neighbour?

I know I've posted it before but in my case it's DPD that's the issue. None of those delivery options work for me. Three in a row didn't turn up because they ",couldn't" us despite regularly delivering here before. Another one was supposedly left in a safe place at home. Except the attached photo was of a completely different property which to this day no one locally has been able to identify.

Then I tried the collect at Halfords. This got there but DPD never sent me a collection pass so I couldn't pick it up. Amazon sent me another item by Royal Mail instead. Last two were sent to work. First one never got here despite allegedly being signed for. Last week another one was due at work. I saw the delivery van in the car park but no delivery. Looked online and it had apparently been signed for. Checked around and it had been given to a neighbouring business and scanned as part of their delivery.

I've tried every possible delivery option with for and all have failed. And yet they were once the best out there.

I use these services often and they work really well. No more having to stay in for deliveries for a start.

All you can do is open a case with Ebay.

The fact that the tracking says delivered might be a problem.

My solution is to not buy from companies/individuals who use MyHermes.

Their website did not fill me with confidence when I had cause to look recently, all our staff are self employed, nothing to do with us etc.

Basically hoping some anonymous person delivers your parcel.

aren't they the cheapest company if you want to send heavy packages without a business account?
Seems to me delivery drivers being technically self-employed is more dangerous for the public as there isn't the same leverage the employer would have on their conduct. Someone on a salary would be more reluctant to fake deliveries. Someone self-employed - they can deny everything and ultimately how can you dismiss someone for misconduct that is self-employed.

They were being investigated by HM Revenue and Customs for possibly paying less then the compulsory National Living Wage:

I have the same lady delivering for them as long I can remember, she says that she's getting less money now then she was ten years ago.
