American Politics Discussion Thread
Continuation of American Presidential Election 2016 Thread
ignoring his behaviour for the last 18 months, his lifetime of dodgy business deals and conning people, as well as the cabinet appointments he has been making, requires a whole new level of naivety to think he is suddenly going to change his character just because he takes the oath of office |

As I say, once he is in office, if he then does something that can be perceived as being wrong, then by all means have a go at him, as he would have deserved it, but to do so before he is even sworn in, does seem a bit unfair. |

Not naivety, just giving a person a chance, and not pre-judging him, why is that so wrong?

for someone who isn't a trump supporter btw you spend a helluva lot of time defending him ... He is just such a very different character, and unlike anyone who has ever taken office in my personal lifetime, hence why I am perhaps more willing to give him a chance I suppose. Quote:
How is it "pre-judging" him to look at his previous bad behaviour, and his current behaviour since he knows he is going to be president - including his manic bouts of ill-judged tweeting?
So why can't Trump be given the same sort of leeway or chance to change? If he doesn't, then by all means have a pop at him then, but to not give him even the opportunity for change, does somewhat not seem quite right or fair. |

If I remember correctly, wasn't Obama addicted to his Blackberry, and the IM app on it just before he took office in 2008 (shows how old school that is now, and very dated!), and he changed his ways once in office.
So why can't Trump be given the same sort of leeway or chance to change? |

I'm not aware of him having a history of using it to send the deranged contents of his head to the entire world, so the comparison is without merit. |

maybe because obama's social media use didn't look like they were being written by a petulant 7 year old

He used it, and wanted to keep it, and a compromise was reached whereby he had a version with modified functionality approved by his security advisors.

The comparison is valid, what you think of the actual messages that either sent, are just personal opinion, and not really factual in nature, which is what we are talking about here. |

What they looked like, or how they were written, is not the issue here.

of course its the issue and the fact you dont seem to realise that is what makes engaging with you on any subject so frustrating
If he is still tweeting as he is now (presumably using the official Presidential Twitter handle, rather than his own personal one, that he currently has now), then we can take issue with him over it, but just as with Obama and his addiction to IM, we should give him that same chance, and see ifhe changes. |

![]() There comes a time when someone, especially someone of Trump's age, has to be judged by their past behaviour, and whether they've shown any sign of improvement recently. Trump's past behaviour has been that of an ignorant immature imbecile, and there's no sign of improvement. So the chances of him changing after being inaugurated are extremely low. |

I swear you'd give Attila the Hun, Vlad the Impaler, Jack the Ripper, Adolf Hitler and Joffrey Baratheon a chance if they were still around.

We see that a lot on here... people who aren't Trump supporters, people who aren't UKIp supporters, people who didn't vote for brexit, but seem to spend a lot of time defending them.

The issue is one of addiction, one person to Blackberry's IM app, which once in office was handled well

They might be extremely low, but the point is, there is still that chance, so got fairness and balance, he should be given that chance.
If he messes it up, then if course it is in him, and he should be rightly criticised for messing up. The phrase 'loose cannon' simply isn't strong enough - I can't think of a phrase BIGLY enough to describe what he is. |

If he messes up (as you put it) - I'm afraid criticism might not be enough. The position of POTUS involved HUGE responsibilities - he has the welfare and safety of a whole country (and to some extent a lot of the rest of the world) literally at his fingertips. All this 'give him a chance' nonsense simply isn't good enough. The likelihood of him 'messing up' is almost inevitable - it's scary to even begin to think of where it could lead.

Trump never said BIGLY. He said ''big league''.
http://heatst.com/politics/did-trump...s-have-spoken/ As it happens - I did hear him say Big League but I also thought I heard bigly too on different occasions. Not that it really matters does it? He still speaks like a poorly educated teenager. |

Is anyone who posts here actually going to DC for Trump's inauguration? I know someone who's attending a wedding on Sat. 21st Jan in DC so they arrive on 19th. They say they may go take a look! It'll be so busy and the security will be unprecedent. We'll see more on TV.

His cabinet is 50 times richer than George W Bush's cabinet, and most of them have little to no political experience.

I don't think the entertainment will be to be up to much. It's rumoured that he's having difficulties booking a big act. Your pal will probably have a better 'turn' on at the wedding he's attending.
