Possible Yahoo hack fallout
Having seen a recent news report on the BBC web site about Yahoo having been hacked, I was interested to receive a very obvious (to me) spam email which might have resulted. The reason why it was obvious was that the supposed sender was somebody I knew very well and whose funeral I attended about 2 years ago.
The first part of the email address and the nickname matched exactly with his now totally inactive account but the part which had been @yahoo.co.uk was replaced by @zay.att.ne.jp. A quick Google of the suffix suggested that it may have been associated with the so called "419" spams/scams. Needless to say, I deleted the mail without opening anything from within it. |

The timing is probably just a coincidence. The Yahoo data thefts were in 2013 and 2014.

It did, however, look like someone had got hold of his contact list.....
