Replacement Car Radio
lordOfTime
18-12-2016
Hello,

I recently bought a Renault Clio which I'm very happy with but the dealer was unable to source the cover for the radio so since I've got it I've been without car stereo entertainment.

I recently became he unexpected recipient of a minor financial windfall of £90. Which I'm wanting to put towards getting a replacement fitted.

How much would you estimate it would take to install and fit he cover to the Clio (55 plate) as well as booking up he wheel controls to it? Thanks

Expensive if it had a genuine Renault radio in it..

If it has a standard size DIN aperture then I would get a new cd player fitted as they are peanuts, chances are the steering wheel controls won't work, it just depends.

Thanks,

Who can best advise that sort of stuff... a garage or somewhere like Halfords? I don't have a clue :/

Most garages know little about in car entertainment. If you can, go to a specialist car stereo place.
Unfortunately, due to the preponderance of built-in-to-the-dashboard radios these days, such places are a lot thinner on the ground than they were a few years ago.
Failing that, give Halfords a go, but beware of the hard sell.

Don't think there are many around my area (going off a quick Google search) may have to try Halfords and as you say make sure I;m getting a good deal!

What do u do if it's integral to the car dashboard?
Some now have the radio has a "feature" of an infotainment system.

Not sure what you mean when you say "lost the cover". Do you mean the radio itself or just the surround? If just the surround, then that shouldn't stop the radio from working. You can get a replacement surround from a scrap dealer for about £2. If it's the radio, again contact a scrap dealer who can probably supply if its a custom fit for less than £25

The whole front surround has gone. Only the button for opening the CD slot remains.

Do you mean the security cover that you'd pop off when parking up somewhere dodgy?

I'm not looking for "world class" but I do want a range. If I can easily get access to mp3's on a USB that would be good but not interested in linking to Spotify or the ability to get notifications from email, facebook twitter etc.

Just CD player, DAB and analog would be good.

This is one that I'm mulling over. http://www.halfords.com/technology/c...fitting-bundle

I guess.... I really don't know, To me it's just the cover for the device. I don't think the above has a faceplate for it but that's a risk I may have to take as this is the best one I;ve found.

If the system has rear AUX input then that can be neatly wired in to a third party radio such as latest Pure Highway.

Changing the head unit (Pardon) will blank out the display. All that will remain is temp and clock.

Kit to allow you to fit standard DIN head unit. Not the cheapest option but claims to support steering wheel controls.

JVC head unit with DAB (inc aerial), CD, bluetooth, usb, etc and steering wheel control input
