not supprised they can fill in the band gap that 1D left in the music industry, have a feeling they wont be as sucsessful as some of the other acts though so I'm not sure whether or not its a good signing or a bad one?

Well obviously Si was going to sign them - he needs a boy band and there is a gap in market for a urban dance pop act! They will do well I reckon they have the makings to be real decent pop stars so long as Kieran sings most of the lead

Why so mad?
They may not be powerhouses but they can still sing. They got third purely off dancing imo. |

I can't see them doing as well as 1D or JLS, but they might match the success of Union J

If 5 After Midnight start gaining more and more female fans, I can see them eventually turning into One Direction 2. One Direction ended up, in my opinion, being the biggest boyband in the world.

On a singing level 5AM might actually be the weakest vocalists out of the top 12, even the two joke acts sang better than them and you can always tell because whoever has the loudest backing track is normally the weakest singer in the lineup, and 5AM always had the loudest backing track to cover up what we eventually saw in their sing-off which was that they really can't sing, not even at a basic level.
They got third purely off dancing imo. If cowell wants to throw them a contract then good luck to them , I wouldn't turn it down either but for goodness sake don't ever have them sing ( mime) live again as surely you know there's problems when honey g outperforms you in a sing off |

It might sound ludicrous but I think Simon should add two more members to really make this work.

I don't think Syco will use either JLS or 1D as a template for 5AM - they're a different kind of group. I'm interested to see what they'll cook up in the studio.

Maybe 5am can be as successful as JLS, but the phenomenal 1d success won't be paralleled any time soon. 5am are older, one has a kid and none of them have the charisma of even Liam or Niall, let alone Zayn and Harry. |

Sorry one direction charismatic? Are you serious!
They used to just sing with microphone stands, wave them around a bit that does not equate to performing skills or charisma! was their music genuine bops! Yeah some of them but to say they were charismatic doesn't stack up - they were quite boring when you take away the phenomenon of fans and hype - to say Zayn has charisma? He can't even perform on stage on his own, he's like a deer in headlights 5AM have bags of personality and charisma and they can actually perform |

Aim them at kids who like r&b lite pop and they'll do well. I always thought JLS sold out a bit for fame and fortune and were far more r&b than their catalogue but it's the same genre that 5am can be aimed at as there is definitely a market out there |

That's it blondie marketing PR, brilliant managing and Simons backing - syco managed to quite easily turn them into a worldwide band because the kids loved them and it was fairly easy to market them because boy bands especially young lads ages 15-19 can relate to the Tweenies - they managed to turn them into a brand what with all the merchandise and the constant promotion - it ran them into the ground in the end though and they split up - can't see them getting back together again now syco was quite brutal in those few years - its pretty much child labour if you look at the gruelling schedule they had!

Glad to hear they have a record deal, they have potential, and they are likeable. I wish them success.

Agree re 1D Eva. Their popularity has always totally bemused me as they were the absolute epitome of average in every way. How they packaged a handful of mediocre singers with the charisma of a wet weekend singing generic pop pap into a gazillion dollar band is a work of marketing genius.

Never going to happen. One Direction were four white and one half Pakistani boys under 20, all exceptionally cute and easy to market in the redneck USA, and in conservative markets like South America, Asia and other territories.

1d were lucky with their marketing team but they were also ALL good looking in a way that appeals to teenage girls across the globe. Zayn and Harry appealed to older women too. Harry was the de facto front man and he has a lot of charisma, so much that even I like him, and my favourite band is Coldplay.
I think 5am deserve to do well, but realistically they'll probably have about as much success as Rough Copy or Reggie and Bollie. Yeah I agree comments wise. The fact they are like 18-20 and one of them already has a kid before they're starting out, the marketers will need to be careful how they play that. There's also touring and work complications - stay away from the kid, and the tabloids will cry bad parenting. |
