Favourite James Bond Film?
Hi everyone!
I thought that I would create this new thread, as I am a huge fan of the James Bond films. I don't believe that this thread has been done before, but I apologise in advance if it has. I am just curious as to which are the best-loved Bond films and what the other fans' personal favourites are. To add a different slant to this, please list your favourite Bond film by each individual Bond actor. Although George Lazenby only did the one film, feel free to add it if it is one of your favourites. I will list my favourites to give you an example Sean Connery - From Russia With Love George Lazenby - (obviously OHMSS), lol Roger Moore - For Your Eyes Only Timothy Dalton - Licence To Kill Pierce Brosnan - Goldeneye Daniel Craig - Casino Royale And now, over to you.... |

This is a tricky one as my taste has changed over the years. My favourite Bond has always been Connery but if I had to watch some Bond films right now, my order would probable be
Licence to Kill (My favourite Bond girl of all time) The Man with the Golden Gun (My favourite Bond villain of all time) The Living Daylights The Spy Who Loved Me Thunderball |

Lazenby - On Her Majesty's Secret Service. My favourite Bond film of all time. Has the best story, the best music, a decent actress as a Bond girl and the best Blofeld(Telly Savlas).
Connery - From Russia With Love. So many iconic moments : the opening teaser, Q giving Bond the attaché case, the train stuff and the helicopter chase. It also has a pretty strong storyline involving spy stuff. Dalton - Licence to Kill. Very misunderstood film. It was doing the sort of thing that Craig's films get the praise for nowadays. Rated 15 - and it's still the most violent Bond film made to date. It's the revenge story that we should have got after On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Craig - Casino Royale. I still think it's his best film. The opening black and white sequence is interesting, and it's good that it does stick quite close to the book(I was delighted they kept the Vesper recipe scene when I watched it in the cinema). Brosman - Goldeneye. Very much a film which showed that Bond was still relevant in the 1990s. The use of the computers and modems and so on. Iconic characters(Boris, Onatopp, etc.). Decent storyline and great stunts(the dam jump in the cinema took my breath away). Moore - The Spy Who Loved Me. This is one where he probably gets the right balance of humour right. Yes, there's funny stuff(the fish in the underwater car for example) - but there's also serious stuff(mentioning his dead wife). Great locations(Egypt) and the Lotus car. |

Hardly anyone seems to like Dr. No, which I suppose confirms its reputation as something of a false start to the series.

Connery: You Only Live Twice - I grew up on Moore so found the first 3 or 4 Connery bonds to be a little boring in comparison. This one though was awesome. I can appreciate the earlier ones now but this will always be my favourite SC bond film.
Lazenby: O.H.M.S.S - Not really much to choose from here (either this or a Man from U.N.C.L.E. cameo). Still a tremendous film though with a very underrated Bond. Would have been happy to see him carry on for at least one more film. Diamonds Are Forever would have been a lot stronger with him in it rather than a bored looking Connery. Moore: Octopussy - I can't even begin to imagine how many times I rented this and AVTAK on VHS back in the 80's. Not the greatest Bond film but I will always love this one. Dalton: The Living Daylights - not much to choose from but this one just felt more like a Bond film than LTK. Brosnan: Goldeneye - though I am one of the few that enjoys Die Another Day and can overlook the REALLY stupid elements this one is just superb. A shame Brosnan didn't get anything else like this in his (too) short run in the role. Craig: Casino Royale/Quantum of Solace - I count these as one really as QoS works better as an epilogue to CR than as a film in it's own right I find. Nothing wrong with Skyfall or Spectre but I just find the characters and action scenes to be superior in these two. |

Moore - Spy Who Loved me - first Bond film I saw on the big screen Dalton - Living Daylights Brosnan - Goldeneye Craig - Skyfall I do like Mark Kermode's idea of remaking OHMSS shot for shot with Craig OR doing some kind of CGI job and switching Lazenby for Craig. Now Blofeld is back - and vanished at the end of Spectre - does this mean an OHMSS reboot is possible ? |

Moonraker - Had to have one of the best posters. Bond in a tux with a spacesuit over the top, inspired. Tapped into the 'at the time' sci fi mood perfectly.
The Spy Who Loved Me - It's probably my favourite Roger Moore film. He looks so dapper and the line 'Can it play any other tune' when Anya is trying to get the van into gear as Jaws tears it apart is delivered as only Roger could deliver it. God, did I have a crush on Anya. That black evening dress with the split up the side - mama! I love how the white Esprit literally gets the shit ragged out of it. In the shot when the helicopter is following it, the stunt driver is absolutely hammering the car. No speeding up required, that thing is moving! The opening sequence needs no introduction for it's brilliance but the final scene when they do the 'nobody does it better' in some cockney, music hall manner is plain awful. For Your Eyes Only - I say this one because I loved the way Roger cold heartedly throws the dove pin at the hexagonal glassed assassin before pushing the car off the cliff. People say Roger's Bond was too humorous but that must be one of the best cold and deadpan executions that Bond has ever performed. The Living Daylights - This is much maligned and some bits aren't great but there are real gems in there. The opening sequence with the three 00 agents HALO'ing down onto Gibraltar is great as is the fight in the jeep as it canons down the road. Timothy pulls out one of the first head butts I've ever seen Bond pull off. There is also a cracking fight with the tall blond assassin and an agent (Green 4) in the kitchen. It's not huge but the Brit agent gives a great account of himself. I also love the way Bond angrily pops that balloon that bobbles over when his contact is murdered. If you want an angry Bond, it's right there. OHMSS - This is my all time favourite. For me it's just the story between James and Tracey. It sounds sentimental but seeing the couple doing things together with Louis Armstrong's song over the top is great. You genuinely want Bond to find happiness. And then when he is being chased and gets to the ice rink. Tracey skates up and asks what's wrong and James says he needs help. I love it because James never needs help yet in his hour of need he turns to the woman he loves. Beautiful. As for the final scene, that is sheer poetry and I'm glad that George managed to get a little sob in. I know people say Bond never cries but this is the woman who was his equal and his lover and she's been killed. I so wish the fame hadn't got to George and he hadn't taken the bad advice because I would love to have seen the film that immediately would have followed OHMSS. Can you imagine a Bond that has lost everything and doesn't care about his own safety anymore? An agent gone rogue that has been hollowed out and wants nothing else but to punish the people for taking away the one thing that truly mattered. God it could have been wonderful. |

Seems I have a very similar list to many others here (posted in order of preference):
Daniel Craig - Casino Royale Has nods to some of the classic Bond moments of old, while creating a great story of it's own. A proper 21st Century Bond with great production values and a much more realistic Bond (which was much needed after the cheesiness of the later Brosnan films). George Lazenby - On Her Majesty's Secret Service -Shows Bond as a human being and not just a womanising assassin (some of the later movies make him very 1 dimentional). Plus if anyone gets the chance, I recommend you go to the cafe in the Swiss Apps where this was filmed as they have a good Bond Museum there, plus the views are amazing. Pierce Brosnan - GoldenEye -A good film in it's own right, but it is also the great N64 game which makes this especially memorable for me. Sean Connery - You Only Live Twice -Classic 60s Bond, a great movie, but the more resent Bond movies are more re-watchable for me. Roger Moore - Moonraker -Bond at the height of it's cheesiness, but still an enjoyable movie which sees him go all across the world and to outer space. Timothy Dalton - License to Kill -I thought most of Timothy's films were fairly generic action movies, although still an enjoyable watch. |

Goldeneye is a bit underrated, top 5 for me. Brosman just matched Bond to a tee.
