Of course these places have repeat business! They wouldn't survive and grow without it.
A good example is Lola's. They started out of one kitchen maybe 10 years ago? Now they have 21 stores/locations in the south east, several more internationally and a thriving online ordering service. I know people who regularly buy from them - £3 for a cupcake, up to something like £60 (possibly more) for a cake. |

They are not allowed to be re-sold, and are binned.
A friend of mine was a manager of a well-known brand of cake-shops, and the instructions from head Office would horrify you. Smoke and mirrors |

Cardboards cut outs of Claude and Karren, where Alana can chuck cake mix on them.

Every home should have one. (Or not.) |

Wasn't talking about cake shops. I actually saw them dump them in a bin, for the pigs.
A cake made today would probably have a shelf life of about 4 days, assuming it's not been stuffed full of preservatives and airtight packaging (which Alana's cakes aren't, as far as we know). To think a shop (or restaurant, or cafe) would throw it after just one day when there are still 3 days it can be legally sold is laughable and simply not how food retailing works. |

Supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, cake shops.. they all have strict rules on when food has to be thrown out. And every restaurant, cafe, supermarket will stretch their stock to that point.
