Oh dear, Courtney, you might not think Jessica is an expert in branding if you had seen her appalling website

![]() Mind you I wouldn't mind the Claude cut-out, as he looks so cheerful, and would look cheerful on a dull day

£3 though for a slice of rocky road? She may have to adjust her prices. Food festivals and shows are a captive market but she would only be able to sell to high end delis. I certainly wouldn't pay that amount.

Surprised by the result. When Alana said manufacturing would remain in Wales and be outsourced (personally handmade cakes by Alana?) I thought she had no chance. And seeing just how much Courtney had improved during the final pitch, how perfect his business fit with Sir Alans experience, it seemed like Courtney just couldn't lose. Good on Alana though.

So how is Alana expecting to produce enough products and deliver them daily to 100s of shops around the country? Isn't she currently only selling to "captive" buyers at festivals and the like, with a lot less potential competition.

Individual shops will each have local people baking for them who will deliver daily. They will not want Alana's packaged product when they can get home made cheaper and fresher
To me she falls between two stools, too small to target the mass market, but too remote to supply the small businesses |

Focus the 'By Alana' brand in retail/big chains of Coffee shops and you could even expand the brand like Lola's have done and have Coffee and Cake Concessions in Train Stations/Airports, similar captive audience to festivals and people will think nothing of £3 per cake if they're good quality. |

They look amazing, no wonder the trade thought they were good quality. I genuinely think this could work out well for Alana and Shugs. I'd be tempted to keep Narna's as a separate entity for mail order/festivals and stuff. Alana could employ someone to bake them if needs be.

Why would they not be fresh? Just because you order the goods now doesn't mean they'll be baked now and then left for a week before being shipped. The bakes will be baked on the day and then shipped out the same day. Also given they are traybakes rather than cakes they'll last a little bit longer before going stale.
Obviously the mail order cakes on Alana's website are not for the impulse buy or the "I need a cake now" market. They're for people who are willing to wait for a higher quality product. I'm really not sure what your problem with Alana is. She produces a high quality luxury food product which by all accounts is pretty delicious. It may not be the lowest in calories, but I'd hazard a guess they've got fewer chemicals and crap in than even some supposedly "healthy" foods. |
