That is odd. Do you have to park outside the house across the street then?

No. Luckily, there is room on part of the side-street just around the corner.
Another thing that annoys me is that the council estate behind us is constantly having its roads repaired and new parking bays added, but we private owners are left to fight over a few scraps of road.

The street i live in is absolutely terrible for this. There's a guy across the road that parks about 4 different vehicles (big ones of that) some on the pavement at our fence, usually a big truck. Several others have cars they don't even use, just leave them on the road. There's literally nowhere to park in the street now (usually at night when everyone's home from work)

It's gotten so bad more recently, that the new neighbour upstairs parked his car across our gate, leaving only enough room to get out. My mum couldn't even get the wheelie bin out and missed the collection.

Thank christ we're moving out this week.

A perfect use of the word 'gotten', where 'got' would have sounded a bit off.

Also following a 'so...' with a 'that...'. Nice.

Sometimes when pushing a pram or wheel chair on the pavement, if a car is causing obstruction, it is inevitable that the pram or wheelchair could scrape the cars parked there or an arm could catch a wing mirror. A way to avoid such damage is by not obstructing the pavement for people legitimately using it for what it was designed for.

I once moaned to a relative about his parking on the pavement and how I had to squeeze past. He said "well, I leave enough room for a double buggy". Erm, if I'm having to squeeze past, you're obviously not. He blocked me on Facebook after that.

Part of his argument for parking on the pavement was because he didn't want his wing mirror being hit.

Well surely that depends on how large a person you are.

You forget that pedestrians are there by right, motorists only by license. If Soho is so congested, then the answer is simple - don't drive there!

there's normally plenty of room for pedestrians on the pavement they just don't give a toss and walk in the middle of the road

the surrounding streets are even more congested, why do you think I am cutting through Soho ?

And you forgot that without delivery lorries, other delivery vehicles, taxis, refuse lorries etc. all those bars, restaurants and shops which attract those pedestrians would not be able to function and would close.

That's very similar to the example I gave in the other thread and is one of the few cases when gotten sounds right to my ears - but as always, there are alternatives.

It was near impossible to park around here thanks to
Commuters leaving their cars to finish their journeys into London on the train/folding bike/
People with three illegal cars and no drive
Garages stacking customer cars on the road etc etc.
Non local people leaving their wrecks here unused for three months for no apparent reason.
etc etc

I got to together with a few neighbours and campaigned for a residents parking zone. We finally got one this month. The area has been transformed no more streets littered with abandoned vehicles and we can park when we get home without cruising the neighbourhood. The amount of through traffic (people looking for a place to park mostly) has dropped drastically. There is room to pass other vehicles so no more bumper to bumper stand offs/fights etc etc.

Life has been transformed.

Many residents like you now rue the day they they pushed for their area to become residents permit parking only.

In my town the residents near the railway station campaigned for residents permit to stop commuters parking outside their houses. The council obliged and implemented it.

For the first year all was good then times became hard for the council, and suddenly the council announced a massive increase in the cost of permits (more than double), and issued as many as any resident wanted (there was rumours of residents getting extra permits and "renting" them to commuters at a big profit).
Soon, parking was as bad as ever along with having the council using the schemes as a revenue source as budgets were cut. Residents have also said it discourages visitors and tradesmen.

In light of this some residents have tried to get schemes removed but none have so far succeeded

Where; roughly is this?

In our case more than double would still be zero.

Sounds like a lack of responsible community action rather than too much of it.

We have residents only parking where I am. There's some public parking as well. Some of the companies are moaning because of how difficult it is to park. There's a huge car park 10 minutes walk away.

I had time off due to a appointment today so walked the 1 mile and the situation is actually worse than i thought. If you are fit and able to be able to keep going into the road then you won't likely be affected but if you are disabled in any way or pushing a pram it will not be much fun. I took a few photos.

It's Northants.

Believe me it won't stay free for long !!!!! With times being hard for councils they will soon want to charge for "admin costs" for issue of permits they will then use the excuse of increasing cost of enforcement as a reason to up the cost of permits as they did here.

Sounds like your council is the culprit and is making stuff up. They do not need to charge £360 for permits. Things are already much harder for a poor borough like ours (Newham) but although we have in some areas had RPZs for many years the first car permit remains free. Even the 2nd is only £100.
You need to get a better set of councillors perhaps?

Only £350! Central Birmgham it's £785 and for that you only get evening and weekend parking.

Yes but that is for the inner city zone. The outer Birmingham zones (comparable perhaps with an 'outer' London borough like mine) are only £16. Still £16 more than ours.

The £350 Northants one is also just for inner city zone.

there`re quite a few parked like an arsehole [and other end names] sites and facebook pages, they look like worthy candidates.

various stickers with a message are also available, i`m tempted to buy some.
