Definitely send cards. Posters above have given all the reasons why cards are better so there's no need for me to repeat any of that.
We like to browse among the cards available in the shops and choose the ones we like, and think our friends and family will enjoy receiving. Choosing which card to send is an enjoyable part of our Christmas shopping.
I also have some E-Cards that I can send in addition to the hard copy cards I send through the post. For instance, One of those that I have is a view outside a house that is dark and unlit. The recipient is prompted to click on the solitary twinkling star in the sky and then watch the whole sky light up with other stars, then click on the window and see the fireplace inside the house turn into a warm glow and so on. The scene soon goes from cold and dark to bright, warm and cheerful until finally the message appears at the foot of the card.
E-greetings have their place and I like those too, but for me, the hard copy card, sent through the post is best. I like to give them and receive them.
