Voting Figures
The BBC obviously don't have a problem per se with publishing voting figures...
http://i2.walesonline.co.uk/incoming...LkWgAAvxDO.jpg Is it only serious votes like SPOTY that they publish and contentious votes they keep secret? |

It's nice to see how the public vote to see how close or not the contestants are to each other. Looked at SPOTY results and you can see the winner had double the amount of the second place. So why not for strictly?

I would imagine it's the fact that people are nominated for SPOTY and it's a one off vote. Perhaps celebrities who agree to do Strictly don't really want the figures to be divulged and the BBC are worried that fewer people would take it on.

I would like it if at the very least they gave us the order the contestants placed each week with the votes, so we can do the maths and add it with the judges scores see who narrowly avoided elimination, who was at the top, etc.

I have a hunch that the number of votes cast each week may be considerably smaller than people imagine.
The numbers of viewers (forget people who record the show or view it overseas) may be going up every year, but the time for phoning in votes is short, and if the lines are engaged, how many people are going to persist until their vote gets through? And I couldn't be bothered with the reregistration process for recording my online vote, so this year no votes from me. Would the results show mean so much if the contestants knew that while millions are watching the show, maybe only tens of thousands will be bothered to vote until the semifinals or finals? |

I don't get that, either, OP.
Not only do they give position and percentage for SPOTY, they also give the actual number of votes which is pretty harsh on the bottom few. I suspect they don't want us knowing because it'll become obvious that the judges were saving, for example, Louise every week from the dance off. Too much transparency. |

The reason I think the producers are reluctant to to release the voting figures is that it might be come much easier to predict who will win the show (as long as they avoid a dance off). If some one was miles ahead every week in the public vote and were a good enough dancer to make the final then some might not tune in to the final if it was already a foregone conclusion. Having said that there is no sensible reason for not releasing the voting percentages of the final shortly afterwards.

If anything it will clear up who came 2nd & 3rd in the final (it annoys me how we never find that out). Other public voted for reality/talent shows have no issue with confirming 2nd & 3rd place so I don't know why SCD always insist on joint runners up. |

Brummy Girl, you are correct. I was not suggesting weekly figures. That might very well skew how people voted in future episodes. All I am interested in is the voting figures for the final, so we can see how many people voted and how the vote was distributed between the contestants. Was it a close vote? Did Ore win it by a mile?
Publishing those figures could not possibly affect how people vote, but would give closure to the series. The BBC do this for other programs, I cannot see why they do not for SCD. I do have a theory though. If the total number of votes that are registered is really low, then this might discourage people from voting at all as they might feel that their vote is not going to be counted. It might also cast doubt over the voting system. I cannot think of any other reason why the BBC do not publish these figures! |

The Beeb don't publish the figures because they don't have to.
(Can you name another program where they release the voting figures, incidentally? They didn't for The Voice, Let's Dance for Comic Relief, Fame Academy or... Oh I seem to have named every other reality show on the BBC with a public vote) |

It's likely because of the judges, and the weight of their vote. Releasing voting figures might show that someone could be consistently low in the public vote, but coming top with the judges, and therefore remaining safe. Can you imagine the outrage? The show is already constantly accused of being fixed now - but if people saw those results, I honestly think it would make the show open to even more accusations and outrage. |

Apparently Danny came second so Louise was obviously third. It was mentioned on Radio 2 by Jeremy Vine or Chris Evans - can't remember which show I was listening to when it was disclosed. Somebody else on here posted it on another thread as well.
