Was James Arthur not initially signed to a German label and then signed back to Syco when he took off? I assume that's what'll happen to Saara; the joint deal is to test her international appeal in the UK while ensuring they keep her Finnish fans - if it takes off she'll be exclusively signed to Syco

If a regional label wants an artist's material to be released in different territories, they'll need to licence the catalogue to another label or distributor in the desired territory, which I believe is probably what's happening with this deal. She will be signed to Syco here in the UK, then her Syco material will be licenced to Sony Music Finland for release in Finland. But Syco will retain ownership of the copyrights.

No, I think Sony Germany deal was a leftover from when James was originally signed to Syco. "Impossible" was a huge hit in Europe and Australia, too. I mean, why would a Sony label in Germany sign a British artist that their UK label dropped like a rock?

It's strange, but American Idol contestants continued being affiliated with Sony's labels in the Philippines long after their US label dropped them.

I'm pretty sure James announced he had just signed a deal with SMG this year.

Syco gets first refusal, it's in the contract they sign so if he's signed to someone else it means they didn't want him

Zayn is on RCA so it's not necessarily a disaster and even though he wasn't huge, Aiden Grimshaw was with RCA and his album was well acclaimed critically. They can make good original albums. It is more the promotion side that is the problem.

Syco and RCA are both part of the Sony group so Matt Terry being signed by RCA is not so much a rejection by Syco as a decision that a different part of the Sony organisation is more suitable for him.

Saara signed the record deal with Sony UK & Sony Finland. Syco joining the deal is still open. Saara has been already offered a new song by Sia to record in her new album.

It's from her press conference in Finland. Lots of stuff in Finnish media, though nothing here yet. She is due to be having a Facebook Live chat with Dan Wootton at 5pm though if anybody wants to send in some questions.

All sounding positive.
Not sure why she needs to go to LA to record an album? But I guess it'll be a bit warmer there?

So much for those who said she'd be limited to the Finnish market, and wouldn't have wider appeal.

Saara needs to be careful now that Sia is flying high on her own. Sia will probably keep her best songs for herself.

Also from press conference: YLE (finnish equivalent of BBC) is making a documentary on Saara.

LA is a big hub for the more known producers and songwriters in the industry. Often labels will send artists out there to work with a number of them within a short frame of time to see which combinations 'click' and look like they'll yield good results.

Saara needs to be careful now that Sia is flying high on her own. Sia will probably keep her best songs for herself.
Sia's notoriously prolific though. She probably writes far more songs than she could ever release herself without over-saturating the market. If she has one that she thinks would be better suited to Saara I have no doubt she'd offer it to her without thinking 'oh this is a good one I should keep it for myself'. It doesn't make much difference in terms of her income unless she felt her own name on it would make it a bigger hit.

Looking at the X Factor tour dates, it doesn't start till near the end of February so she could have plenty of time to fly to LA in January and commence tour rehearsals on her return.

It's all very exciting for her anyway

It's been confirmed that Saara has signed a record deal with both Sony Records and Sony Finland and has a 5 album deal. I'm so pleased for her!
