They are designed to feather and yaw as necessary to keep the power output within operational parameters.

What limits did you have in mind?

If the 'problem' is solved by paying windmill owners millions in constraint payments.. Do you think that may be an unsustainable problem in itself?

But post-industrial revolution generating methods don't require those 'constraints'.

Well, apart from the billions we'll need to pay the Chinese for our nuclear power that is.

Err.. EDF. If we'd bought Chinese or Russian reactors, they'd have cost a lot less, but then we're bailing out EDF & the EUro-reactor.

The Chinese are providing a big chunk of the financing directly and probably a lot more indirectly as EDF haven't got two beans to rub together having lost it all on, er, nuclear power stations.

I didn't say the solutions were not handling the problem of gusts I said the problem gets worse the more wind you put on the grid.

As for gusts overpowering the control system.
That depends on what magnitude of gust, and speed of onset of said gust, you are designing for. In the end it all boils down to how quickly the control system can respond and economics.
Then of course climated change is likely to result in higher and more turbulent winds so a system that is okay now may not be in the future.
So what do we design for?

Yes, you see all sorts of problems. Too little wind power, too much wind power, too much gusty wind power...

If you don't like wind power, why not just say it?

So are you saying none of these problems exist?

I've nothing against wind per se, the problem with it is the way it is used on the grid.
Incidentally, it was too little wind not too little wind power.
