It will generally depend on how fast your ISP download speed is (How busy the Sky servers are will have some impact). Without this info, your question is similar to "How long is a piece of string ?"

Based on a guess of average bitrate 7Mbps. 1 Hr program will be around 7 x 3600 Mbits = 25200 Mbits.

At 70mbps that should take 25200/70 seconds About 6 minutes. The holdup must be down to the servers at the Sky end. That's about the time it takes for a iplayer-HD programme to become fully buffered on my HDR-FOX-T2.

On Sky HD boxes the download speeds are capped at around 16-20Mbps.

An episode of Planet Earth II, which is 2.62GB, will take about 19 minutes to download.

Sky Q boxes download faster.

It should be much faster than that. My downloads on Sky Q average 50-60Mbps, an hour long BBC show (HD) can be done in 5 minutes.

Is 3Mb your internet speed?

If so, that is why it would take so long.

Not sure how big UHD file is, but a 12GB file will take over 9 hours at 3Mb to download, at full speed.

Just because you have a fast connection doesn't mean the wifi in the area of your house where your Sky box is, is getting a good through put speed.

Put your postcode on here, it will tell you the cabinet you use, and if it's being enabled soon (if it is that cabinet).

I've got a Sky+ 2tb box running the latest firmware and connected via ethernet to my Home Hub 6, find the films and other content downloads very quickly as I never have to wait more than about 10 seconds for download content to become available to play. Mind you, I am on their infinity package with a speed between 38-43meg.

Unfortunately it doesn't tell you that the cabinet is outside one edge of the village, and so far away as to only offer sub-ADSL speeds

Be nice if it marked where the cabinet is, as well as the exchange (which is fairly pointless).

Sky's download system can be finnicky. I have a good, fast internet connection, and a flawless home network, but until a few months ago Sky downloads took forever.

BT historically has had conniptions over letting you know where their stuff is. They consider it a risk. Even when the cabinets are obvious, and the exchanges sometimes even more so (since some of the larger ones have a bloody massive BT logo on them). I imagine there's actually more of a risk of a drunk driver ploughing into the cabinet than any targeted action.

I'm surprised that they'll even tell you the cabinet number!
