SD space:
COM6/ARQB in the mornings, 00:00 to 08:00; and separately between 06:00 and 08:00 SD and HD space Either 1 full 24 hour HD channel (with BBC approval) alongside the advertised 21:00 to 07:00 space on PSB3/BBCB Or 6 additional 24 hour SD channels "streams" on PSB3/BBCB 5 additional HD streams, running 24 hours on COM8 4 additional SD streams alongside the 5 HD streams or 30 additional SD streams in replacement for 5 additional HD streams on COM8. |

Interesting, could you give the source of your information so that we can examine it further.
http://www.xhxf.uk/timeshares/index.htm COM7 has very little null packets, so therefore COM8 being an exact replica of COM7, the current streaming arrangement on COM7 can be replicated on COM8. BBCB, can also be a replica, but I agree with chrisy, the BBC takes more into account of viewer quality perception versus Arqiva's arrangements on their multiplexes. Where for example, Film4+1 on BBCB is running at 1920 x 1080 even though it is an SD channel. All SD channels on COM7, COM8 have a aspect ratio of 544 x 576; not even 704 x 576 as done on most channels on BBCA and 720 x 576 on D3&4. Also, GMAN multiplex in Manchester only has a potential one extra 24 hour stream vacant, following running the mux with 7 streams until earlier this year. |

Yes, based on the digital bitrate website: http://en.digitalbitrate.com/dtv.php...ng=en&mux=COM8

CBS Action +1, Horror Channel +1, More4 +1, Yesterday +1, Spike +1, True Entertainment +1 are all the most likely candidates, so nothing to get excited about! |

What numpty thought having less horizontal pixels than vertical was a good idea for 16:9 programming?

I don't think that space actually exists. Yes, technically they could squeeze another HD channel in, but the BBC like to maintain a level of quality that the commercial networks don't.

Free space?

So is that it then for us Freeviewers, or can more channels be added with extra 'infastructure', (e.g more satellites are launched to increase Sky's capacity)?
are now being sold to the Mobile Phone networks including Tablets/IPads If it were to happen then two or more Muxes need to be set up broadcasting in the DVB-T2 HEVEC format |

Freeview can add extra capacity but it is very expensive plus it won't happen as more frequencies

Including PSB wide coverage ..... if a non PSB can afford it .. |

If all the 6 muxes at dso 2 when the 700MHz band is sold off.

The trouble is there are no major entertainment channels queuing up to join Freeview, channels like ITV2HD, E4HD, 4MoviesHD, etc. ![]() Worst case scenario, Freeview agrees to go all DVB-T2 and Ofcom then decides to flog off half the remaining bandwidth to the mobile phone networks.

A few months ago I knocked together http://kjs.me.uk/3rdparty/digitalspy/dso2.html which illustrates what could happen... Just 5 multiplexes would allow all current channels to fit in including some additional HD, with 6 giving room for all the PSBs* to broadcast in HD. * By which I mean all the channels from the PSB Broadcasters - e.g. ITV 2 and not just the channels currently classed as PSB. |

But at the moment the mobile telcos are not wanting more spectrum than they will get, and ofcom has said that it will preserve the spectrum for broadcasting ( shared with white space) But at the end if the day it is a matter of public policy ... what is more beneficial to the uk ... mobile data or broadcasting but with just under 50% first tv and then most of the remaining 3+ Tv in each house hold beind fed from DTT , the future looks a lot more pro tv than in the USA where only 17% use broadcasting as their means of reception ( -and the FCC seem to ignore ATSC 3.0) |

However the problem will be the cost .. the operating companies are going to charge channels £m's more to get on the better serving Multiplexs.
Then even on the more restricted Multiplex's you will see costs through the roof as such for small channels. It's your channels like Bike, Motors, Vintage, Chart Show etc that are probably next in line, IF they could afford the space - you which is debatable on the current com7 and 8 rates. |
