Time to retire the showdance?
In view of the fact that a lot of them tend to be a bit meh and so many dances seem to becoming them anyway do you think it's time to stop doing showdances and just have the couples do the final original dance - the one they can now duck out of instead or possibly allow them to do it with relaxed rules so have a showdance themed around that dance.

After just watching two of the best showdances we've had on the show then I'd say definitely no. I know it's a bit hit and miss, but I think it is useful to see them anyway. It's a chance for the pros to show off without any interference from tptb and I think it would be a loss to lose that.
I could watch Ore & Danny's showdances on repeat and not get bored - i think if you need a reason why they should be kept, those two dances would be it. |

It needn't have been like that. Claudia could have done something quick like her QS , or a Musical theatre number, with lot of xciting gymnastics tricks - it worked for Louis - and male gymnasts have fewer options for tricks - but she wasn't there .Daisy could have done a musical theatre number......Seven Brides for 7 brothers might suit either of those two. Rinder or Balls ????????? It is a problem though because the best show dances have been done by people trained to do them - Denise, Jason, Tom..... or using tricks from their day jobs like Louis. Many of the others have been dull , duller, pointless, or plain wierd - like Lisa's, or Colin's . |

nooo. time to make it compulsory to do one of those stretch-tastic, acrobatic, cique du soliel numbers that we used to see showcased in the week running up to the final.

It shouldn't be retired, but I wish they'd go back to having it as their final dance.
Also, the judges should NOT be allowed to mark it. |

I like the showdance. I think it is a chance for the celeb and pro to say 'this is us'. If that means introducing their puppet friends to make foursome, wrapping the celeb in foil like a turkey, or reprising the celeb's gymnastic achievements then so be it. The opportunity is there to do something really exciting and I always live in hope.

It's interesting... apart from this year's showdances, which are all still fresh in my mind, the only ones that stand out to me are Tom & Camilla's and Louis & Flavia's. (Oh, and of course, Lisa & Brendan's, for all the wrong reasons ) Even Caroline & Pasha's hasn't really stuck in my mind. But I still hope every year that there will be a showdance that wows me. I'll take all the disappointment of the very many "meh" showdances, just for the sake of the occasional "wow" dance.

They don't always work but this year's crop worked well enough so I'm in favour of retaining them.

I'd rather they reined back in on the other dances in the weeks leading to the final so they were less liftastic and pseudo-showdancey.

It's the other dances that aren't supposed to be lift-tastic. |

I like showdances. It's a chance to break from the norm.

Also, the judges should NOT be allowed to mark it. No to retiring the showdance (why??? ) and also no to making it the last dance of the show. Allow the finalists to relax, enjoy themselves and dance their hearts out, perhaps not caring too much about who gets the glitterball because the public vote cannot be relied upon. |

No way, they shouldn't give up a the showdance it's the one dance I look forward to all series as there are no rules. Even if their showdances aren't always great, it's still the one I look forward to.

I've never really enjoyed the showdances until this year. But they do give the opportunity to show something a bit different

Definitely keep the showdance - it's the only original dance we get in the final, the other two we have seen before. And keep it til the end!

I look forward to seeing the showdances and enjoyed both Danny's and Ore's this year. Louise's I can't even remember without looking it up.
In the past we've had triumphs and disasters, I remember watching *bacofoil* through my fingers , but each are interesting in their own way. It challenges to pro dancers to choreograph something special.

Maybe ithe Strictly PTB should rename it the 'freedance' or something?
A showdance implies a particular style - and people are sometimes disappointed because the celebrities dance something less 'showy'? A final 'freedance' could be any style they wanted |
