A truck has ploughed into a Christmas market in Berlin.
Terrorism?
Early days but it would not surprise me at all.

Seems most UK news sites haven't picked up on this yet.
I don't speak German, but Bild seems to have some photos http://www.bild.de/ |

Now reported by Fox News in the United States and by Sky News in the UK. LBC Radio have also tweeted the story as breaking news.
Early reports say one person has been killed and there are numerous injured people. |

Using Google Translate, Bild reports: Quote:
Berlin - A truck is driven on the Berlin Christmas market at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in a crowd - the police going from a stop off!
A person died, as a police officer said. Several visitors were injured. The situation is still confusing. Numerous rescue cars have arrived. The Christmas market was cleared immediately. According to "Berliner Morgenpost" the truck came from the Kantstraße / Budapest street on the premises. Recordings of a Facebook live video show destroyed boards on the Christmas market, visitors take care of injured ones lying on the ground. The truck apparently ran across the Christmas market in an alley and came to a halt at the Christmas tree - many meters further. In the meantime, eyewitnesses report on the social networks that there was a big bang. Nothing is known about the cause of the pop. |

Too early to determine if the seemingly most likely scenario has happened.

Terrorism?
![]() Accidents happen all the time. Unless you have some reason to believe it was a terrorist attack I suggest that you assume nothing. Crying 'terrorist' every time a car backfires is itself a form of terrorism. Keep calm and carry on, I say. |

German police saying first indications suggest it is a deliberate attack.
Merkel will be looking to get this story under control and fast. |

Sadly for you we have free speech in this country and people are free to speculate. I certainly hope its just an accident, but given the scene of the crash and the initial reports of a truck moving at high speed in an urban area, and Germany's recent terrorist incidents - then there are reasonable grounds to suspect that terrorism could be at play here.
I don't really have a vested interest either way. I was attempting to point out that a large part of terrorism is living in fear. The main part, in fact.

Fox News has broken into it's regular programming- Shepard Smith is now anchoring breaking news coverage of this from the Fox News Deck.
Shepard Smith: "Our sources and the local media are saying this is a terrorist attack. The US State department has recently warned US tourists not to go to certain places over the Christmas period and they said they had intelligence to suggest that terrorist attacks were being planned to coincide with the Christmas period. "Local police are yet to confirm that this was a terrorist attack but all the signs are pointing to it being one." |

Lorry ploughs through German market

Will be interesting to learn who the suspect is. Homegrown or part of Merkel's refugee invitation program. |
