Wonder if Angela Merkel still feels no guilt ...
(July 2016) "Angela Merkel has delivered a staunch defence of her open-door policy towards refugees, insisting she feels no guilt over a series of violent attacks in Germany and was right to allow hundreds of thousands of migrants and refugees to arrive last summer. https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...-after-attacks Quote:
"Chancellor Angela Merkel earlier said she was hopeful for a "quick arrest", and said she was "very proud of how calmly most people" in Germany had reacted to the attack."
So I presume not. I thought her previous qualification was sickening in itself - wtte " if we find this has been done by an asylum seeker it will be all the more terrible as so many German people have worked hard to welcome them..." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-38402743 |

Thank you for the clarifications, I see I'm not the only one that's puzzled. The whole scenario just doesn't make any sense. Why attack on a Monday night, when the number of visitors is probably the lowest? Why leave your ID behind? And why stop the truck (seemingly deliberately)? I thought the whole point of their attacks was to go out as "heroes" (from their own point of view), so why did this one chicken out and run away?
What disturbs me the most, however, is the fact that we have come to a point where a terrorist attack is merely statistics. The DM doesn't even run headline news about the identities of the victims any more, they are simply 12 anonymous bodies. How on earth did it get this bad this fast? It has not been established whether he left his ID behind i.e in a prominent position, or whether it was dropped i.e in the struggle with the Polish driver, or with the impact, or fell as he was fleeing. From his documented attempts to start the truck, it appears he was not experienced in driving a truck. He may have just messed up as he drove into the crowd or hit some of the stalls thus slowing the vehicle. Presumably any vehicle telemetry will give a full record of exactly what happened to the truck. Because of his inexperience, he simply messed up driving the truck. The pictures of the front windscreen show that it was not completely shattered; in other words, it did not crash with sufficient impact and he found himself merely wounded not dead. Not all of the victims being named may be because not all have been identified, not all families have been fully informed, or the families have requested privacy |

No chance of a 'sorry'. More of a chance of them telling the public that they have to get used to it and if they don't like it then they are intolerant. |

With people like Merkel it's always somebody else's fault.

Christmas markets are only on for a couple of weeks so a monday night is probably as good as any; it will still be packed.

Not all of the victims being named may be because not all have been identified, not all families have been fully informed, or the families have requested privacy The Polish truck owner phoned the driver (his cousin) at 4pm as he should have been on a rest break but could not contact him. The truck owner then accessed data to look at what the truck was doing. It showed a timeline which in his description "looked as though someone was trying to drive it". Look for the part at 3min 47 seconds in. https://www.channel4.com/news/berlin...ce-release-man Tonight an interesting interview on security and the lack of information exchange between different countries. https://www.channel4.com/news/debate...ini-callimachi |

She did admit in a speech in September she had made mistakes in her handling of the migrant crisis and that with the benefit of hindsight she would have done things differently - she conceded that Germany had "lost control" of the situation for a while and was ill prepared to take in so many migrants.
Wonder if her admission was heart felt or just groundwork for possible re-election? |

Im not saying Merkel is right, but if you were one of the refugees living in hell on earth in a war zone, you'll be highly grateful being allowed to move to a safer country. It's a moral dilemma and people will naturally choose the side that best suits their own interests.

Strange that one. Would you leave your Wife and Children behind? I wouldn't. It's hard to watch but look at the Video of the two Turkish Soldiers being burned to death. This is what we are up against and this is some of the people Germany has invited into their Country. |

Seems the situation is still out of control. Who the hell accepts so many refugees whilst "ill prepared"! Did she and her party think any problems would go unnoticed or stupid enough to think that everything would just fall into place and run smoothly. Mind boggling.

The burka is a part of that, and the culture that goes with it. It is abhorrent.

The burqa is only abhorrent if a woman is forced to wear it. If she freely chooses to wear it because that is how she interprets the parts of the Qur'an that deal with modesty, and wishes to be very devout in her religious observance, that's fine imo.

He wasn't (bib). I posted this news clip before but maybe you haven't seen it.
The Polish truck owner phoned the driver (his cousin) at 4pm as he should have been on a rest break but could not contact him. The truck owner then accessed data to look at what the truck was doing. It showed a timeline which in his description "looked as though someone was trying to drive it". Look for the part at 3min 47 seconds in. https://www.channel4.com/news/berlin...ce-release-man Didn't know the terrorist had been later sat with the actual engine on for 45 minutes. Wonder if he was parked up in the same place for the 4hrs before he set off- unless he was in a service station/car park, that should have been quite noticeable. (The timeline doesn't say how long between the Polish driver stopping for the snack and a hijack before 3.44. ) Scania said, at the outset, that he must have disabled some kind of auto braking device that should have shopped the truck at the impact. No idea how that works. Considering where he the Polish driver stopped for his snack, the pistol and other features, am wondering now if this was an opportunistic thing but based on long-held, more general plan to get a truck? |

Acc to the thread blame seems to have settled on a middle aged white woman. but if you're a German news editor it seems to be the fault of the intelligence services & the police. |

Knew the poor Polish driver lost contact around 3pm but useful timeline there.

Institutional repression. It's woven into the fabric of Islam, and most other religions to a varying extent.
