ALL asylum seekers should be stringently screened imo, no matter their origins and their destination.

someone posted earlier - was he headed back to Tunisia. ??
and he had got rid of his phone

Quote:
“Milan police chief Antonio de Iesu said the officers became suspicious after noticing Amri alone outside a closed suburban Milan train station at 3am. When asked, he said he had no ID papers. He also had no phone and just a small pocket knife.

But de Iesu said he had a fully loaded 22-calibur pistol that he used against the officers.”

Indeed but it's worse - each EU member decides which countries it regards as "safe".

so alongside the 3 I mentioned you have the likes of Albania , Montenegro and Kosovo who still have not been classed as safe by Germany........... that's before they even start to drill down to individual screening.

only once those countries are deemed "safe" can they fast-tracked home. They're still arguing about that.

Time spent on giving it a long slow death is time that could be spent tracking down others. A quick bullet to the head should suffice.

Within 24 hours of arrest, say?

Oh, they could be held for months first. It needn't be immediate.

Stop trolling! Its clear I was talking about when the news first broke on this thread . I don't require any other details and I have clearly explained this was before any details were given If you cannot understand that simple little fact, then stop trying to debate something you are not clear about. .

Agreed Minnie .There is always one on DS " lets wait and see maybe he was innocent , la dee da . " Completely disregarding that most of us had already read the news and he had pointed and shot a police officer .So regardless of who the man was he was not innocent .He was damn guilty of shooting a police officer and so I too join those who said " Good, I am glad he is dead before he shot someone else "

My heart goes out to all his victims and their loved ones now suffering and grieving and in pain .

I don't understand how we got to a place where it's seen as bad to question anybody trying to enter the country, and to describe illegal immigrants as illegal.
How has this happened?

There seems to be loads of people promoting the idea of breaking down borders and acting as though it will be a utopia if we just all thought the same.

It's normal for a country to protect its borders and to be thorough in scrutinizing people who enter it.
Anyone here who thinks it's xenophobic to think otherwise should see if they can just waltz into any non-European country like Australia, America, or Japan willy nilly and see how far you get.

These checks and balances are crucial for absolutely any country. Once you see it as normal to blindly welcome anyone into your country without really questioning who they are this is taking a path to disaster.
It's incredible how critical some are of people simply wanting to uphold the law of the land and seeing people as xenophobic or even racist if they don't just open their doors to anyone. In some circles you're seen as a very bad person if you describe an illegal immigrant as an illegal immigrant. You're expected to use some other term like undocumented migrant.
What's going on? When did basic common sense just evaporate into thin air?

You keep up .You obviously had not read the news before hopping on posters here that he " may be an innocent man " Most of us had in fact informed ourselves of his guilt at shooting a police officer . Give it up now .

You are not everyone , do not speak for everyone.

The person posted "Suspect shot" the other person said "good one less scum etc"
2 or three minutes later two threads appeared saying suspect shot dead. one said details to follow . So this was before all the details were out.

Done with this crap now.

I got what you meant.

Someone posted 'suspect shot'. IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS came the 'good' posts. THEN the details started coming through which indicated that it was indeed someone who had shot at police and got their just rewards.

I don't get what is difficult to understand or why you are being lambasted to be honest!

Although, in mitigation, these threads move so fast that it can be difficult to keep up sometimes!

OK, I have read back and understand a) why you snapped at me and b) what your point was. If the initial details were that the suspect had been shot dead in Italy, my reaction would have been concern. No one knows for sure he was driving that truck. I do agree with what you said.

*ETA: Actually, the police might know he was the driver from DNA evidence)

Of course, now we know why he was shot, and it seems the officer had little choice but to do so.

I really must get cracking now . I have 32 bags of clothing to sort and food to sort and see what else is needed for the homeless then run to the shops for last moment bargain so can get double for my money and really give them a lovely Christmas and here I am arguing on the WWW about things that dont matter and not doing what does matter a lot to me.

Cheers and Merry Christmas to you and yours

'Your country?' Is that an indication that this isn't your country. No surprise if this is the case.

"IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS" Unless I'm missing something it was 10 minutes* from a poster claiming the suspect had been shot dead and the first "good" (wtte) post - plenty of time (particularly in a busy thread) for posters to read up and verify from the various media outlets themselves.
