*ETA: Actually, the police might know he was the driver from DNA evidence)

Of course, now we know why he was shot, and it seems the officer had little choice but to do so.”

He was shot at 3am. The first post saying he had been shot was at 9.29am by Asmo. The reports in the newspapers were appearing at 9.18am and they contained not only the information he had shot a policeman but that it was indeed Amri Anis that had been killed, we knew earlier that it was his fingerprints in the lorry that was hijacked and used in the attack. It was Amri Asin the police were looking for. All the information was there. TrulyTrue just assumed because it wasn't in the thread straight away that no one had read it or knew more than they had bothered to find out. I had and I can't have been the only one.

The difference being of course that they don't take their lead from a holy book for justification.

How has this happened?

There seems to be loads of people promoting the idea of breaking down borders and acting as though it will be a utopia if we just all thought the same.

It's normal for a country to protect its borders and to be thorough in scrutinizing people who enter it.
Anyone here who thinks it's xenophobic to think otherwise should see if they can just waltz into any non-European country like Australia, America, or Japan willy nilly and see how far you get.

These checks and balances are crucial for absolutely any country. Once you see it as normal to blindly welcome anyone into your country without really questioning who they are this is taking a path to disaster.
It's incredible how critical some are of people simply wanting to uphold the law of the land and seeing people as xenophobic or even racist if they don't just open their doors to anyone. In some circles you're seen as a very bad person if you describe an illegal immigrant as an illegal immigrant. You're expected to use some other term like undocumented migrant.
What's going on? When did basic common sense just evaporate into thin air?”

Since the death of the attacker Merkel has said "Her government's main priority was to protect German citizens, she told journalists, adding that this case had raised "many questions".

"Further changes to our laws and regulations will have to be made," Mrs Merkel said at a news conference. "

I think the last paragraph is an understatement.

And far too late for those who were killed and injured by a man who clearly shouldn't have been freely walking the streets . Her policies failed them and her laws failed their loved ones
A relative of mine was at that market two hours before the attack . Had she died I doubt my family would be now forgiving Mrs Merkel

BIB - interesting what slips out isn't it? protect German citizens aka secure an election victory. I say this having looked at the nationalities recently listed amongst the dead.

also today, she thanked the Italian officer but couldn't avoid a little extra spin - wtte - thanks to x and this is a testament to how well Europe can act together.

My arse!

found it now:
Quote:
“I thanked the Italian prime minister

She wishes Christian Movio, the Italian officer who was shot, a speedy recovery.

Terrorism is a challenge for all of us and it is good to see how resolutely and how well we work together across Europe, says Merkel.”

My sentiments exactly ducky. She and her cohorts should be hanging their heads in shame.

Don't know - but wasn't he spotted outside a mosque in Berlin a short while after the event. Maybe he knew someone there who helped him in some way.

Past violence by refugees ignored then only now are they planning on trying to solve the problems. Laughable.

RICHARD BARRETT (former head of MI6 counter-terrorism) " Richard Barrett said that the authorities was struggling to cope with the number of “live” cases in the country.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, he said that there were around 550 “really extreme potential terrorists on the books”.

He added: “In addition to that though if you include all the Lander (local regions) in Germany they have about 7,000 live cases. "

Germany has 7,000 TERROR SUSPECTS who are 'almost IMPOSSIBLE' to track, ex-spy chief says http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/...possible-track

Exactly. In ISIS controlled areas men who are not even related to women and don't even know them will have a go at women whose veils are too thin therefore "see through". Same if they're not wearing gloves. The taliban made women cover up everything even their eyes so they had to see the world through mesh. That's more extreme than Britain or America for example where society says women can more or less wear what they want. Of course there are jealous and controlling men in Western countries who don't like their wives wearing makeup or skimpy clothes but there isn't a mass movement telling women to cover up literally from head to toe (other than in muslim communities) in the West.

a few snippets of interest about his progress after the Italian arson:
Quote:
“Amri was one of a number of migrants who set fire to their mattresses, which burned the migrant centre holding 1,200 refugees to the ground.
Many refugees were given permission to travel freely through Europe but Amri was ordered to stay in the overcrowded camp because he claimed to be an unaccompanied minor.
Amri was released four months early from his four year sentence, arriving in Germany in July 2015 where he remained under the surveillance of the intelligence services for several months.
He had been arrested three times this year and his asylum application was rejected, but deportation papers were never served and he disappeared.
The Tunisian radical was known to be a supporter of Islamic State and to have received weapons training.

With nowhere to go after his release, ISIS recruiters offered him protection before convincing him to sneak into Germany as a Syrian refugee, a source within Tunisia's anti-terror police revealed.
The source told MailOnline: 'Whatever he decided to do in Germany was started while he was in Italy.
'They gave him food and shelter and persuaded him to carry out a mission for them. It was in Italy that he was radicalised.

'He entered Germany posing as a Syrian refugee. He was a vulnerable young man and they showed kindness to him.'”

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...n-Aalborg.html

He would have been 19 then on arrival in Italy where he was claiming to be an "unaccompanied minor."

So if that Tunisian source ^ proves to be correct, Italy's also implicated in the radicalisation setting. ( Won't be surprising if that is prison- based again.)

Next, France on the back-foot- re. issue that they have had emergency security procedures in play yet he was not detected when he made stops in two French cities on his way back.

Quote:
“French authorities are refusing to comment on how the Berlin attack suspect apparently crossed into France and left again in the face of an international manhunt, AP reports.

Milan police chief Antonio de Iesu said earlier that Anis Amri had “surely passed through France” a country that has been living in a state of emergency for more than a year after deadly Islamic extremist attacks.”

"Things that don't matter"? Like 12 people dead and around 50 injured, a number seriously? Terrorism mattters very much for those people and their friends and families.

Well yeah. It's a problem if you go in a criminal and exit as a radicalised criminal pledged to jihad and leave with a network of associate Islamists.

Trouble is - it was routine that we housed them and those vulnerable to it, together - didn't we only stop doing that in the UK last year? It wasn't rocket science was it but it was locking the stable door......
