Perhaps the families want privacy? I don't see why the need to be named if all of their loved ones have been informed of their demise.

It certainly won't make any difference to my life not knowing their names. Is it going to alter yours?

Thos who have followed this thread were wondering about accomplices/network.

Quote:
“Berlin market attack: Tunisia arrests suspect Amri's nephew

Tunisian security forces have arrested the nephew of the Berlin market attacker Anis Amri and two other suspects, officials say.
The Tunisian interior ministry said the three, aged between 18 and 27, were members of a "terrorist cell", and that they were detained overnight. The interior ministry statement said Amri's nephew - the son of his sister - had confessed that he had communicated with his uncle via the encrypted chat application Telegram to evade security surveillance.
It said the three-member cell had been active in the towns of Fouchana, outside Tunis, and Oueslatia near Amri's hometown of Kairouan, about 150km (95 miles) south of the capital
The statement added that Amri had sent money to his nephew to travel to Germany and join a jihadist group, and encouraged him to pledge allegiance to the so-called Islamic State (IS) group.
Meanwhile, intelligence services in Spain are investigating a possible internet communication between Amri and a Spanish resident on 19 December, Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido told radio station COPE.

der speigel opinion piece on the reaction to the attack

Quote:
“Now, everyone is certain who is to blame: the establishment political parties, the populists, the lying press, the scaremongers, the do-gooders and the right-wingers. The two sides of the divide no longer have much to say to each other.

The Berlin attack has now demonstrated just how little overlap there is between these two parallel worlds”

most of the article is questionable BUT there's a good, very detailed time line there..

Also on BBC news was British public, via GoFundme, donated £40k in one day , towards family of Polish driver.

no but its normally the norm to name the victims and have pictures of them in papers...

If it's upsetting you so much not to see their pics and know their names then complain to the German authorities (who place a value on an individuals right to privacy). I'm not sure I'd like my daughter's face plastered all over the media if she'd just been murdered just to satisfy the curiousity of readers but that's just me.

Don't think you'd get a choice in the matter..... Not sure if it's the victims family decision if photos of them are put in the media or not??

It might be the case here but it doesn't mean everybody else follows suit.

One of them is still described as "missing", which is a bit weird if she's been in a morgue for several days.

I notice the list of people to blame "Now, everyone is certain who is to blame: the establishment political parties, the populists, the lying press, the scaremongers, the do-gooders and the right-wingers." doesn't include Amri Anis

I would hope it's the loved one's decision not some editor or whatever sitting in the comfort of his office hoping to boost sales or click bait.

Seems real enough to me, you only have to listen to the winesses when the reports were first coming in.

Rubbish! Is it not enough for you to see the appalling aftermath of such a tragedy to know that it is real. Very real indeed. Not everyone wants the names and pictures of their dead relatives plastered all over the media whilst they are still coming to terms with the loss. Surprising it may seem, but some people still value their privacy

What a fabulous Foundation they've started. I read a day or so ago that someone's started a donation fund for the Polish driver. People are so caring.

A growing number of people are asking Germany to award the Polish truck driver with an order of merit.

The funding page set up for his family is here.

Thankfully, there are better privacy laws in Germany and other European countries that mean that their papers can't just take pictures from Facebook and plaster them all over media. They need consent.
