Anyone can read out unsubstantiated rumours from Twitter. It's the job of the BBC to get the facts. Sometimes that takes a little extra time.

Police are saying it WAS a deliberate attack.
Should it not be reported by any news channel, from your viewpoint? Of course the news should be reported. I never suggested otherwise. What I said is that most news outlets have a vested interest in jumping to conclusions. That is a fact, isn't it? What I also suggested is that we ought to wait before making assumptions, but apparently that's a ludicrous suggestion. |

What? Man on Sky banging on that if the Authorities knew that it was likely that there was to be an attack on Christmas Markets, then all Christmas Markets should be shut! By that logic, if a group of terrorists suggest that there will be on attack on, say, a football match or on a railway station, then all stadiums or stations are closed until the supposed threat is over.

There are no words that would even come close to describe what a truly awful and heartbreaking situation this is. Innocent people going about their day, at the time of year that makes people happy and full of festive cheer.
For whatever reason behind the lorry incident, those innocent souls have lost their lives, and many have injuries. My thoughts are with that have died, for those that are injured, and for the loved ones of all of those involved.

When I read that article I was quite worried as my cousin and family are over in Germany until early Wednesday morning until they return to UK as they are all visiting a Christmas German market and you know what I actually thought. But I did manage to contact him and the market he's visiting is in Düsseldorf. I was absolutely relieved as I feared the worst.

Could it be the religion of peace, again? Surely not.

Joe always seem to have a different viewpoint to the majority on any thread one can only wonder why
The police SUSPECT it was deliberate ≠ the police have CONFIRMED it was a terrorist attack. |

Didn't they say they suspected that it was deliberate? Of course, they can't possibly know until they find out, which basically means asking the driver.

Well said.
I despair on here sometimes. British witness said the truck ploughed into the middle of the market at high speed. Accident my arse.

One or two aspects are puzzling, especially the driver being reportedly arrested. Normally these terrorists launch an attack with the clear intention of dying in the incident.

The BBC believe in caution and wait for independent verification of information before broadcasting unlike some other news channels. That may appear ponderous but it does mean that any information given is correct rather than speculative

The owner of the truck company says he lost contact with the driver (his own cousin) at 4pm. Wonder if that's the dead person in the cab.

The owner of the company reckons the truck was hijacked and it wasn't his drivers involved in this.
