Do you think it is right to have Strikes at Christmas
These strikes are causing so many problems especially around the busiest time of the year. Are these strikes affecting you. And do you think they should strike at Christmas

The strikes are not affecting me....if you believe in people having the right to strike, then it doesn't matter when it is.

If they have gone through the legal process then it's their right.
Maybe employers could do more to reach an agreement with the workers. |

If people feel the need to strike that is up to them. I know wages are crap but some people get even worse wages for just as hard work and don't feel the need to strike or aren't able too, they just get on with things in the hope one day it will get better.
I just don't get the motivation the only ones that suffer are those who are struggling anyway, the big bosses that can ride the losses from their massive profits don't care and are unlikely to give in. But like I said it's up to them. |

Maybe employers could do more to reach an agreement with the workers. If the ordinary Joes are really getting screwed, then I don't blame them for withdrawing their labour, but I'm not happy with the R.M.T. and/or A.S.L.E.F. bleating about 'passenger safety.' Get real, they want to hang on to every job that they can, nothing wrong with that, but don't give us the B.S. that they've walked out to protect passengers lives. I can imagine that eventually, the train companies, leaned on by the government, will negotiate that the superfluous guards will go, with inflation busting bribes, sorry, pay offs, and the drivers will get £5000 inducements to return to work, and safely close the doors, which they already do. |

Those politicians and newspapers who say it is wrong to strike at Christmas would criticise the strikes no matter when they were happening.
People should pay closer attention to what is happening in this country instead of just seeing things through the prism of their own lives and accepting opinion as fact. And what is happening in the world is much more serious. But as long as we have our televisions, our internet, our gadggets, our food and drink, |

Are these strikes affecting you?
They did disrupt a very important appointment in October.
I have made other arrangements now and intend to never rely on trains again. They will be my very last resort. |

Genuine strikes should happen when it inconveniences people the most, otherwise there's little point. When would you prefer them to be... between 3:00 and 3:02 on a Sunday morning?

If someones employment conditions are being interfered with, without their consent then strikes are fine by me,whatever time of year it is.
I also don't care if they earn fabulous money and still strike - principles are not only for low paid workers. |

The company and government have had months to treat these grievances seriously and take steps to settle this before it affected Christmas and the holidays, but seem willing to let this situation fester in order to set an anti-union agenda.
I agree with the point above saying that whatever time of the year, the government would have poured scorn on the strikers. The government don't want the serfs getting ideas above their station, particularly when you consider the surge towards popularism that we've been witnessing recently. |
