XF 2016: Live Show Standout Performances
Thought I'd make a thread to discuss what we thought the standout performances of this year's live shows were. It's not limited, you can name as many as you want to.
For me: Saara Aalto - had many standout performances and improved as the show went on, showcasing her ability. For me, her top 3 standouts were The Winner Takes It All, Chandelier and It's Oh So Quiet. The first two showed her amazing vocal ability and range, whilst the latter showed us what she is capable of in terms of performance, and it was incredibly entertaining. For me, Oh So Quiet is what made her get so much support - it was the song in which we got behind her, as she wasn't doing the usual generic XF songs like River Deep Mountain High in week 2. Other notable performances by Saara for me include her performance of Everybody Wants To Rule The World during the first night of the final; her Christmas medley of White Christmas and All I Want For Christmas Is You was very special; and, finally, enough is enough was also spectacular. Emily Middlemas - Emily was another one of my favourite acts this year who really improved as the show went on. My favourite standout performance from her was Creep during Halloween. However, her performances of Toxic, Human, What Makes You Beautiful, War Is Over and Mad World were also memorable and her best ones. Her version of Human, a current song, shows what she could do in terms of chart music, whilst her acoustic version of WMYB was also very special and shows what her own record may be like. 5 After Midnight - 5am were also one of my favourite acts. Again, I think they improved as time went on. For me, their best performance was DISCO week, a medley of Boogie Wonderland and September. However, their final performance of Crazy In Love comes in at a very close second - it was memorable and extravagant, and I can see them doing something similar to that in the real world. Leading on from that, their performances of Uptown Funk, Can't Stop The Feeling and the Sorry/One Dance mashup also showcased what they'd do chart wise. Special mentions to Stay Another Day and Signed Sealed Delivered which also were well performed. Matt Terry - whilst Matt wasn't my ideal winner, he could sing. For me, I really liked his first live show performance of You Don't Own Me. That's the type of stuff he may go on to release, seeing as it was a recent song. Also liked I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Take Me Home and Say You Love Me. However, his standout was undoubtedly Writings On The Wall. That showcased his vocal abilities and personally I think is what led to his win. Relley C - Relley was amazing and I wish she would have got further, I'd like to have seen her in the final. Shackles in week 1 was, in my opinion, one of the performances of the series or the show in 13 years. It was perfectly executed in terms of vocals, style,.performance, production, dance etc. I also liked her other performances - very soulful. She left too soon!!! Four Of Diamonds - I liked 4oD pre-lives, especially when they sang their own version of Royals by Lorde at Judges House. I liked their style of music and saw them as something that could be big. Unfortunately the producers took this away and made them sing generic songs. That said, I enjoyed their last live show performance of Hold On. I also liked Ghost - although the harmonies could have been improved massively. Gifty Louise - my standout performance From Gifty was Lay Me Down, which showed her beautiful and powerful voice. She should have been given more stuff like this or more soulful / R&B stuff, instead of being Fifth Harmony's new member. Honey G - didn't like Honey G at all. But if I had to choose my favorite performance of hers it'd be Jump - quite liked her version of that Everything else no. Just awful. |

Saara - For me I felt that early on in the series she showed strong vocal talent but was getting some shoddy song choice treatment, however of her early ones I always enjoy It's Oh So Quiet and probably still remains my favourite Saara performance, I also really like The Winner Takes It All with the Piano playing.
Sam - I really have a soft spot for her version of Hello, it's probably my favourite performance of the series even though it wasn't perfect, it was probably the closest someone came to actually replicating a bit of a credible Rock/Indie/Soul hybrid which I always like hybrid performers, although to be honest with Sam she was quite underrated as the only bad nights that she had imo were Impossible and I'll Stand By You. Emily - For me I really liked her Human as I felt that it suited her a bit more than the Indie sounds that she was trying to go for in nearly every other round, if she'd done more like Human I actually think that she would've held off the dull tag that most female singers get on this show. Ryan - He seemed to be in his element in his last three weeks I'd say, it actually was ashame when he was eliminated because he was probably doing the second best behind Saara out of the top six. Freddy - I'd say was his sing-off against Saara, it really showed how the show had humiliated him and that he was better than some of the acts that had survived the night. Relley - Shackles was her best as she didn't seem like an XF cliche on that particular night. Gifty - Lay Me Down was probably her strongest. 5AM - Motown was probably my favourite of theirs as it was a little less autotuned, plus I'm more forgiving of acts like 5AM in the early weeks. Honey G - Jump was probably her best as it was more than just I say Honey you say G. I think that's most of them anyway. |

Matt - Pretty much most of his performances, but You Don't Own Me, I Put A Spell On You, Writing's on the Wall, Alive, Take Me Home, One Day I'll Fly Away and the winners single were the ones that stood out for me.
Saara - It's Oh So Quiet, Enough is Enough, My Heart Will Go On and her duet with Adam Lambert. 5 After Midnight - Get Ready/Reach Out I'll Be There, Say You'll Be There, Boogie Wonderland/September, and Stay Another Day. |
