I had that last week and it wasn't very pleasant. Over the counter flu remedies seemed to do very little.
The only thing I found that helped a bit was sleeping on my side and taking a couple days off to rest.

I hope you feel better before Sunday.

Its been around at work. I was one of the earlier ones to get it and i got rid of the cold symptoms within a couple of days. My throat was still a bit sore a week or so later but nothing major.
I normally take Echinacea capsules or tablets or capsules during the winter and that tends to keep me well or get rid of the symptoms while others are sniffling and groaning for weeks.

Second time round for me this winter. Now it has developed into sinusitus so I feel like I'm underwater, my ears are so blocked. I suppose it's viral so no point in going to the gp but it really is unpleasant.

Thank you for this I will start Echinacea in the hope that prevents me getting anything else this winter and maybe it will get rid of my symptoms

Oh no second time poor you. I think I may be developing sinusitis too off to get some Echinacea as recommended by the person above hopefully it will help.

The usual cold and flu remedies but if it doesn't shift, especially from your chest and your breathing in the new year, you should see your GP.

Apparently there is a recognised condition having at least some of the conditions that you mention. Search for

Christmas tree syndrome

For instance it has been discussed on the Daily Mirror website ( first in the search results on Google ). So check that out. If it is the problem in your case, then sorry but the solution to end your suffering is to remove the tree from your warm environment ASAP such as Boxing Day.

I can't give you a direct link as am on the tablet and am clueless about cutting and pasting with Android - but please search as above...

Most people just have to wait, and ride it out for several days. See your GP of it's not pretty much gone after about a week.

If you're sinusy then get some Sudafed nose spray, I swear by that stuff! All my colds always go straight to my sinuses but this stuff saves my life! I have 3-4 bottles of it in the house - one lives on my bedside table, one in my bag and then an extra in the medicine cabinet. It's seriously the only thing that will give me a few moments of clear breathing when really under the weather.

I haven't caught this one yet, and I don't think I know anyone currently ill, so fingers crossed! I was hit by the first wave this season back in October and the sniffles hung around for a couple of weeks, but the majority of bad symptoms were gone in a few days. The trick is to allow yourself a couple of days to just sink into your sofa and do nothing else.

Viruses usually mutate, hence there are not currently catch all cures or inoculations at present, so the best you can do is to sooth the symptoms and let nature (i.e. your immune system) do the work. A week max should be enough for most people.

Hey 1Mickey I thought I should give you some feedback re the Echinacea I got a bottle of pure Echinacea from Health Food shop and have been taking it twice a day before food. The results were amazing just one dose and my symptoms eased and now have gone completely. For those who may be sceptical and say I was probably over the worst, no I most definitely was not. This thing was a beast a colleague at work caught it same time as me and is still laid up. Thank you Micky for your recommendation

Sounds awful .Shame you can't all be helicoptered to Sandringham to get better! I'm pretty lucky in that I hardly ever catch anything and if I do I get rid of it fairly quickly. I live in Britain's busiest city which is probably full of germs and I'm fairly immune. Some essential oil remedies can help with cold and flu symptoms. A few drops (just a few) of Lavender in a warm to hot bath or on your pillow can help you feel better especially with getting to sleep or try sniffing some Olbas Oil earlier in the day for a blocked nose.
