No voting in the final
I would prefer no voting in the final.
Each of the 3 finalists ahould release a winners song. The X factor winner would be the one who sells most in a week. |

This would actually be a cool idea, as long as they give everyone equal marketing/promotion so that it's fair...(which probably wouldn't happen

They actually did this on a couple of the Popstars' series in Germany and it worked well, although I think it was a combination of the record sales and voting. It meant (in theory) that the winner was somebody who could sell records in the real world.

This is why I loved Popstars: the Rivals. Such an exciting element compared to the usual girly/mum/granny vote. Actual single sales really made it all much more real

The problem with this is, far more people watch the show than vote & buy the music. 6 million viewers a week, 2 million votes a week (and with 5 free votes, less than 1 million people voting), and at best, 50,000 people buying the winners single. Obviously all of those were higher a few years ago.
I don't think it's a good idea to take away the whole competition element - I think people want to see a winner crowned at the end based on the performances. |

The Voice US counts iTunes sales as votes, but you can still vote for free too.
If the song charts in the iTunes Top 10 during the voting window, the votes earned that way get multiplied by 5 (used to be by 10). |

Buying as many copies of a finalist's winner's single would mean no money from votes. There's also a risk that less money would be made than if people were voting. It might bring in more money, it might not though.

I'd like it for the whole series to be honest and just let who sells the most Music stay.
Maybe just maybe we might get the decent acts going through every week rather than the TOWIE Soap Opera types. |

I don't think it's a good idea to take away the whole competition element - I think people want to see a winner crowned at the end based on the performances. X Factor is primarily an entertainment show. The money that it makes for the broadcasters and the production companies comes from the advertisers. The business purpose of the show is to attract as many viewers as possible of the type the advertisers want. It is far from being a straight documentary of a singing competition. If it were based purely on vocal ability there would be no spectacular staging, no dancers, etc. Each singer would stand on the stage and sing, maybe waving his/her hands about a bit. As you say, the show attracts many viewers who don't buy music. They are just as important to the advertisers as those who do buy music, possibly more important. |
