A strange desk from the 1960s :

Anyone any idea what this was ? Record decks in filing cabinets ? Is this just a mock-up or a hospital radio system ?

That chair would never pass Health and Safety these days !

I just wonder if it's French in origin. There's what looks like a Croix de Lorraine on the desk.

Also known as the "Patriarchal Cross" - an Eastern church thing. You see it in Hungary. On the other hand, it could just be something to hang the coffee cups from.

That would be a vile desk to sit at for any length of time.

Thanks people for your comments. The woman who runs that particular "blog" does have strong French connections, in that she features pictures of French recording stars and movie stars from the 1960s. Unfortunately she never quotes the sources of her pictures. The other week, she published a photograph of Sandie Shaw standing next to a Radio Luxembourg car at Orly Airport, After a bit of hunting, I found that it was the first stop in 1966 when Sandie embarked on a European tour at the age of 19. That tour was a big help, as she won Eurovision the next year with "Puppet on a String".

But no clues have yet emerged about the story behind this desk....

Thanks for the observations...
