Hi

It's my wife's 40th birthday in March and I want to get her something to mark the occasion. Trouble is, I have NO idea what. I really have drawn a blank.

She isn't materialistic at all - she has the shoes, jewellery, bags, clothes she needs rather than a huge collection that get used once every so often. She loves cooking but she's got all the appliances for the kitchen.

I really have no idea. Your ideas are most welcome.

Thank you in advance.

Something that she's never done before! Adventure days - something like a Segway day or whitewater rafting (we did whitewater tubing in the summer - amazing!) If she's not into adventure stuff - a trip to a vineyard in the UK, or a chocolate making course/class.

That's what I'd like anyway!

Weekend city break abroad, somewhere with great food if she loves cooking?

Afternoon tea in a top hotel? Or maybe even a west end show and then a night in a nice hotel - if you can stretch to that. You haven't said what your budget is.

Budget is up to £300.

I should have mentioned we have a 5 year old and no babysitter, so anything would have to include her.

I got my BF a lovebook, which is a personalised hardback book which you design yourself and fill with reasons why you love your partner.
Its special, its personal, its creative, its meaningful and not expensive at all.

Despite the fact it comes from the US, it actually got made and delivered very quickly.

My BF loved it, but then he is a soppy so and so!

With that kind of budget how about you taking the day off from work if that's possible, and look after the child and then buying a Spa Day for her so she can have a complete chill-out day for herself on her birthday

I love cooking as well and my friends gave me cookery lessons in a posh restaurant for my 40th. We got to eat all the lovely food we prepared afterwards.
Best present ever

my wife loves big cats so i got her an experience where she was a big cat keeper for the day at Paradise wildlife park in Hertfordshire.
She handfed tigers, wolves and had her photo taken with a 12 month old puma sitting on her.
She still says it is the best present she has ever had

This sounds like the best suggestion to me, although making it for 2 people - herself and a friend - would be better I think.

Confusing for the wolf 😳
I was a monkey warden at a sanctuary for an afternoon but physical contact was forbidden mostly for the monkeys' protection.

I'd second this. Was my wife's 50th last year and shed always said she fancied clay pigeon shooting so I arranged that for her along with a close group of pals we go about with. The girls in the group who are her old school pals were very sceptical of my choice thinking it was me who wanted to do this but they grudgingly it has to be said took my word for it and went along with it. Every body had an absolutely fantastic time at it and the wife in particular loved it. Afterwards it was back home to get changed then into town for meal and drinks. I did get her a nice watch and perfume aswell

Be very careful if you do this. My daughter bought me a 'sled dog day' for my birthday recently through Groupon. I have so far been unable to contact the company involved to make arrangements.

How about a steam generator iron to make life a little easier for her?

A mini break, long weekend home or overseas- luxury hotel

Stay in a city with trip to theatre, meal out etc.

Spa day / weekend at a Spa.

If she has a particular interest or hobby, you can buy an "experience", ie drive fast cars etc. If she dances or likes Strictly, a dance lesson with one of the pro's.

What did they think you'd do to the monkeys?

Buy a spa day for her and her BFF, speak to BFF first. You stay at home and do the babysitting.
