I got my BF a lovebook, which is a personalised hardback book which you design yourself and fill with reasons why you love your partner.
Its special, its personal, its creative, its meaningful and not expensive at all.

https://lovebookonline.com/?gclid=CO...Fcm6GwodC14J3Q

Despite the fact it comes from the US, it actually got made and delivered very quickly.

My BF loved it, but then he is a soppy so and so!
There's a UK based site that does similar - book of everyone.

I ordered one last Thursday and it was delivered yesterday

Nothing. A true couple don't need to buy each other gifts.

This looks pretty good.
The main difference however is that the book of everyone is prepopulated with existing pages of information whereas the love book allows you to choose and design the content itself. Both great ideas however.

This will come in right on budget.

300 bottles of washing up liquid from the ‘pound shop’.

P.S. its got an improved longer lasting formula evidently,…plus ‘Aloe & Waterlily’;…she’ll love it.

I knew 2 couples that didn't buy each other gifts. I shagged both the wife's.

A '1-40 book celebrating her life so far. Memories, photos...

Ask friends and her family to make contributions.

Costs very little. My auntie had one done years ago, and she loved it.

She said it was like being on This Is Your Life.

How about a nice new vacum cleaner, I heard Dyson have a new light weight model,,and it's under £300 so result.
Then we might hear how the op has been in A and E having a cleaner pipe removed from his back passage!

There are some brilliant ideas here! I do think it rather depends on your wife though! I guess you know which she'd like. I turn 40 next year and would hate to go white water raftering or have a spa day but I know plenty who would!

Sadly the adventure day idea isn't on the table, what with her being pregnant and all.

Thanks for the ideas though.

I agree with you as I also would not be pleased to have a spa day or go water rafting.

I would prefer a nice meal out, weekend away together and/or a few keepsakes & that's what I received.

If she loves cooking, find a country house that offers a combination of accommodation and cooking classes. Quite a popular gift here in Ireland and I'm sure there are plenty of options in the UK. It's something the three of you could do; you all stay there and you have the little 'un while she's taking the classes. If it was just a day course and a one-night stay, £300 should cover it.

Lego Creator 31021 Furry Creatures.

Everyone likes lego, plus this is animal themed so women will like it. Further, it only costs £40.

I asked for vouchers to put towards a dyson as my wedding present and my lovely colleagues bought the dyson for me! I was and indeed still am - euphoric about it.

But I accept it's not for everyone! If we were all the same the world would be hideously tedious.

It's for the home, not a personal present for a wife!

If my late husband had bought me a Dyson he would have had it stuffed where the sun doesn't shine 😩
If your wife likes cooking try and see if there are any cooking classes locally she could go to and, if you do not have a baby sister, see if she could bring the food home and you can enjoy it as a family 🦀🦐

…is there not something a little odd about giving your wife ‘cooking lessons’ as a 40th birthday present ?

“Your cooking has always been shite by the way,…but hopefully that will soon be rectified;
…Happy 40th birthday darling!
”.

Absolutely it's basically saying "vacuuming is your job" I expect my Husband to do the vacuuming just as much as I do, so a Vacuum Cleaner is a gift for the house as are irons, dishwashers, cookers ...etc.

It's my wifes job to vacuum clean and my job to empty the vacuum cleaner.

Different strokes for different folks, my OH is banned from vacuuming because I love doing it. I would be offended if he got me cooking lessons though.
