What other types of dance can you see on Strictly in the future?

Now that Len has left (we think!), do you think there will be changes made to the types of dances that appear? I know zilch about dancing, just like watching most of it, so wondered if those who do could see or suggest other types of dance they might introduce in the future, the way they brought in the Charleston and the Argentine Tango. Lindyhop is the only other one I've heard of that might be a possibility. Is there a case for or against a "contemporary dance week" earlier on - is that judgable or scorable like other forms of dance?

Personally, I'd rather they didn't go the DWTS route. I don't think it works in the UK.

We have such a strong tradition of ballroom in this country, and obviously the show was partly inspired by Come Dancing. From what the experts on here say, many of the dances performed on the show are already very watered-down, and we do already have a big variety of dances, including dances that aren't part of the 10 dances.

I think we have more than enough of a mix of 'mass entertainment value' with traditional ballroom and latin now. I wouldn't like to see it change any further.

Well said, I agree entirely!

This would be my instinct too, but I'm just curious to know what the options would be if they did decide to make changes.

Personally, I can't see any more dance styles being added to the show. I also think they should just stick with what they have got.

I think they could chop a couple - Salsa and AT perhaps.

It's already a bit bloated.

Rhumbatugger - I was about to suggest one they could chop - then I saw your name and realised you might not agree with me.

Don't you DARE, Karly - one of the ten dances and beautiful.

None. I stopped watching DWTS when they started adding stuff like Contemporary, Jazz, Bollywood, Fusion, blah blah blah.

In fact, I'd be happy if they nuked Charleston.

Contemporary for 2017! Loved the whimsical feeling to L&K show dance, so mesmerising to watch

I'd like a "one-off" week, with all couples doing one style of dance like contemporary/ jazz/ tap etc. Would bring something new to the table and freshen up the show. No partner swap weeks or anything as gaudy as the US show!

They have to be careful though and not mess up the delicate balance of ballroom/latin - otherwise it'll be a DWTS clone and I don't think anyone wants that on the UK show...

Get rid of the Charleston and the AT, they are getting boring now. There are only so many Charlestons you can do before they all start to look the same. AT is proving a sticking point too - unless you have a great flair for it, it looks meh. Getting the technique and performance right in the standard 10 B&L dances is far more watchable, imo.

Surely it all depends on the number of weeks they want to run the show for?

I'd rather nobody could miss any of the ten dances.

I do think that now we have salsa, AT, AS and Charleston with lifts, it's rather ruined the impact of the show dance in the final. And, as I invariably hate almost all the show dances, I'd like to see the final dances reworked in some way.

Actually, I'd prefer to see the more traditional dances danced in a more traditional way.

And just for a bit of spice, add something like "contemporary dance" to the list. Would provide a nice "lift" (no pun intended) to the show.

They're already sneaking in things like contemporary, jazz and Bollywood every other week via "American Smooth" and "Salsa" and "Greg Rutherford's Hallowee'n Rumba Spectacular" I don't think they need to be separate dances.

Why should the presence or otherwise of Len make any difference? Are you suggesting the he opposes other styles because that would be grossly unfair.

Folk dancing, especially reels and jigs. Flamenco, given we have the Paso Doble. Belly dancing perhaps? None of this is connected with ballroom dancing but then neither is some of what we see ballroom dancing.

If we were to drop any dance then I vote for salsa to go. I don't like it as a dancing style and there are not many good ones in the history of SCD.

if other dances such as contemporary etc brought in then outside choreographers or another set of pros would be needed - would just like the standard dances done better get rid of salsa or with a hark back to the original come dancing an odd old time

Keep Contemporary to the group dances. If we were to add new ones, I'd rather have more traditional stuff, but I doubt TPTB would agree with this.

You can add the Gay Gordons, if you really want, but definitely not the Lindy Hop or any other dances involving piles of lifts. There is real risk of pulled muscles and dropped dancers and groin strain if this untidy-looking dance is not executed properly, and dancing in sneakers and cheerleader outfits is not to everybody's taste.

Lots more technique crept back into the classical dances this series - the judges kept remarking this. The palette is wide enough , especially now that the early formula of 2 dances per night has been dropped.
