What other types of dance can you see on Strictly in the future?

Baz_James, only because Len is seen as the ballroom expert, and I wondered if TPTB might see his leaving as an "opportunity" (depending on your point of view) to make changes if they don't replace him directly with a similar ballroom expert. I hope they do.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I never felt Fusion was given a fair run; I loved Kimberley's and Dani's, and it would, if arranged properly, allow everyone who makes the final to do all 14 dance styles (let's say the Final 4 would have unlearned dances of Samba, AT, Rumba, and Foxtrot - just have them as part of the Fusion. Quickstep/Samba, AT/Paso Doble, AS/Rumba, Foxtrot/Cha-Cha etc).

Come to the dark side. DWTS does a fusion every season!

Again, I think you're assuming that it is Len (or his mere presence) has somehow prevented these changes thus far. I don't believe that's true at all. If Len was the stickler for 'purity' that everybody seems to assume I'm sure he would have walked away from DWTS long ago

I'm another who liked the concept of fusion dances and Pasha and Vincent provided the best choreography with their respective numbers, although James's jive/QS wasn't bad either.

Perhaps instead of the danceathons, they could have Barn Dancing, with the couple who managed to keep up with the caller declared the winner.

Oh, I don't know. Some people were really good at it! Oh ... see what you mean. Lots of it still in Devon. Dunno about other counties.

Now that Len has left (we think!), do you think there will be changes made to the types of dances that appear? I know zilch about dancing, just like watching most of it, so wondered if those who do could see or suggest other types of dance they might introduce in the future, the way they brought in the Charleston and the Argentine Tango. Lindyhop is the only other one I've heard of that might be a possibility. Is there a case for or against a "contemporary dance week" earlier on - is that judgable or scorable like other forms of dance?
Please no more non-Strict-tempo dances; the idea of the show was ballroom and Latin , it's bad enough with the Charleston and Salsa, not that I've anything against either as such, but they are not Strict-tempo dances, A no, definitely not a case for contemporary dance, which is a whole different ballgame, more akin to ballet than ballroom.

I too enjoy the fusion of different dance styles. Its great for the Pro's to use fabulous choreography changing from one dance to another, and presents different challenges to the celeb, not just learning steps but learning and applying the necessary technique to one dance, then into another. The different characteristics of each dance should be clearly visible, and I feel this is a real test for them.

There are ballroom dances that are not part of the Standard 10. For instance:
Polka: https://youtu.be/tIfHTXVNoDU (dancing starts at 1:08)
Humppa: https://youtu.be/5rI_4FOJEx8
Jenkka: https://youtu.be/YTtiszcedM0

I think most people who have had any kind of dance training or been to drama school will have done jazz/ tap/ modern/ contemporary/ ballet.

So it's better that they don't do those types.

Maybe an 'ethnic' dance that people could choose themselves? So you could have Russian dance from one couple and a Maori one from another?

Are there any Maori dances for couples? I've never seen one.

No to any dance styles that are part of the standard curriculum at stage schools. We already have the rumba to show off contempowafting.

Yes to fusion dances. Often exciting, and offer an opportunity to see how well a celebrity retains technique from differing styles.

The showdances are often fusion, so I don't see the point of having any more. Maybe however drop the idea of "showdance" where the couples can dance anything, and insist they dance fusion of ballroom and/or Latin.

What about a 'Team up' week, where two contestants do the same dance at the same time?

This was a DWTS contemporary team up which I really liked:

That sounds good to me. I generally greatly dislike showdances. The only recent one I thought was genuinely brilliant was Kellie's - and I say that as someone who supported Georgia the whole series.

Would love rock'n'roll and lindy hop to return, after their brief appearances in series 7.
