I don't feel sorry for any celeb with previous experience. All the celebs get paid to have dance tuition (something I pay a small fortune for). For those whose interest is pursuing a career in theatre, the resulting publicity can be a huge boost to their career. It's free career development basically. They're not treated badly by any stretch of the imagination.

Some of my friends didn't know about Danny's previous experience, whereas I think it is pertinent. I don't think he was put down by any of the judges. Len was just looking for something positive to say about each of them. For Ore it was the journey. For Danny it was a consistently high standard that set the benchmark for other celebs.

Danny has conducted himself well throughout Strictly and post final. He's shown himself to be a really likeable guy who can perform well. Not a bad outcome for him.

There are lots of people in this world who get a really raw deal in life and I will save my sympathy for them rather than any Strictly celebs
BIB Problem was that by singling Ore out as the 'underdog', Len was basically saying vote for him rather than the other 2/3 because he's come further forward. Actually in the final they were all doing dances from weeks three or four and to me they did them exactly the same second time around. The only difference was the somewhat annoying confetti tens in the final.
As for the 'save the sympathy' for people who need it....completely agree. All this lot, like all the previous lot, will be spending a month overseas on holiday before looking to get as much career enhancement as possible once the tour is over.

I see where you are coming from ref Len...he seemed to use the 'no dance experience' thing as a ploy to manipulate in semi final week.
The problem, though, is the term 'no dance experience' because if you mean 'no dance training at a dance school' then that rules out the likes of jay, danny, louise ,kara, harry, etc etc.
If you mean no dance experience in front of a TV audience for, say Dancing For Comic Relief where they HAVE trained for it and where it is judged in the same way as the SCD Xmas special is, then that would also rule out the likes of Susanna Reed and Ore!
So which you mean ?
What I mean is that I have no problem with people like Jay & Danny being on the show but the judges should not mention that some people have had no training as that comes across imo as saying don't vote the ones that have had training as they don't deserve to win. Imo the ones that have had training are unfairly criticised in the latter stages by people like Len who was not even subtle in the points he made.

Why not when its the truth. Why not highlight how well someone has done from not being a dancer at the beginning of the process?

A large part of the success and the romance of the show is that someone can "fall in love" with dance and attain a high standard from more or less scratch. Natasha had it. Darren had it. Mark had it. Alesha had it with "elegant dancing" compared to the "street style" she was supposedly used to. Chris had it. Harry had it. Abbey had it. And now Ore has it. It isn't new, it isn't some big stick that Len just invented now to beat poor beknighted hard done by Danny with and it definitely isn't something the public have been "brainwashed" into voting for by the producers/judges. People have been making fun of how hard it's pushed when it happens since Series 3 at least but it's baked into the show's DNA that sometimes the ringers are taken to the viewers hearts, and some times they're Claire Sweeney, whose very first dance was greeted with catcalls from Bruno for how boring it was considering she'd danced in the West End.

For me I know some people will disagree with me but I wouldn't watch the show if it only had celebs who had no dance experience. My favourites tend to be the ones who have some dance ability e.g. Danny and Natalie being my two favourite ever contestants.

Strictly works because it is open to all celebs no matter what dance experience they have.
Amen to that!

so why did they slaughter the likes of Ed Balls and Judge Rinder and Greg.....real non dancers who went a long way and showed improvement? They couldn't wait to get rid of them In fact craig went on ITT the week before ed balls left and said 'we just need ed to go...now'.....hardly unbiased judging..again.

He did Claudia no favours either suggesting she wasn't a non dancer because she was a gymnast.

None of them were as good as Ore that's why. The judges want in the main the best dancers to get the final. But it was part of Ore's story (its a reality show remember) that he is the non dancer who takes it to the ringers..

I am glad he was on the show this year as he produced the unpredictable element to snatch the glitterball away from the better dancer. I am still surprised he won.

So you would expect the judges to say that Danny is not a dancer. Which he wasn't.

whether someone has dance experience or not, is irrelevant surely it's who dances the best on final night. This year, that was Ore who happens to gave no dance experience.

It could just as easily have been Danny this year, who happens to have dance experience, but he didn't dance the best on final night.

What Planet does Len live on with his comments about no Dance experience why did he not aim that comment at the Producers who hired the Celebs that had Dance experience.

In the next series they should not allow anyone on the show with experience and then will be no need for the sort of comment Len came out with.
How do you define "experience"?

Anyone who has had any drama training will have done some dance training. Do you hire private investigators to check no one has had lessons for the Wedding, ballet lessons as a child or just been a regular dancer.

No because he learnt to dance as part of his stage school training. He admitted that he had dance training at the start of the process. So did Louise and Will Young who went to the same place as Danny. I don't mind them having those contestants. As long as they have not done ballroom and latin Its fine.

But with Ore in the semi and final he matched the stage school dancers, so Len for me is right to highlight that.

But not quite as much a 'non dancer' as he would have us believe and certainly not as big a ' non dancer' as those I mentioned. See previous references.

He was not trained.

And in the final he was a BETTER dancer than Danny.

Get over it.

Including Ed Balls who was in an inter-college ballroom competition at Oxford and Judge Rinder who had lessons with the NYT? I guess Greg is relatively pure...

Aw look, don't spoil it for them. They HAVE to have something to justify their ire.

It's Christmas, be charitable to the grinches

When it comes to talking about dance experience they judges lose out either way
- if they talk about it then it's bashing the celeb
- if they don't talk about it then it's a cover up

A fair portion of the public vote based on how they see celebs improve rather than how they see dance quality. Some people like a beginner to mess around and be entertaining. Some people like to give credit to be the older celebs who do well despite limited fitness. It's all part of the show.

Problem happens when "some" dance training as part of a Arts & Drama course is inflated to experience far beyond reality.

Someone who studied dance for 5 years a long time ago is probably on a par with someone who did stage dance as part of a drama course for a year more recently.

Natural ability will take you further than someone who needs to spend hours learning a routine, as was proved during the final.

Because of being in bottom 2 the week before even if he didn't make any mistakes on Saturday I still think Danny wouldn't have won people didn't like him because of the so called previous dance experience claims.
