Jean Alexander was everything Anthony Cotton isn't.

That parasite would turn up at the opening of an envelope if it meant he could get his face on the TV.

When I knew this programme was going to be on, I swear the first thing I said was I bet that Cotton pain in the arse will be in it.

I mean, what the hell does he have to do with the Hilda era?! If they did a tribute to any character from the first 10 years of Corrie he'd stick his nose into it and appear. I detest him. I'll be keeping this programme on a DVD but he is definitely being cut out.

I feel the same, but it is such a marvellous tribute to a real Soap Icon that even the Cotton creature can't spoil it for me.

Today's Corrie characters aren't good enough to appear on the same cast listing as Hilda

Hilda and Stan were my generations Corrie characters

They were a double act - didn't they impersonate Laurel and Hardy. It was a relationship which worked. While others didn't survive - they were still there. Hilda, Stan and lodger Eddie Yeats

My favourite story was Stan throwing the washing out - and Hilda, Stan and Eddie rooting through the rubbish on the tip to find it...

He had plenty to do in the 60's and 70s.

The scripts back then were brilliant. And hilarious. I've cried laughing at some of the stuff Stan and HIlda did.

When the telly broke and to save having to pay to get it repaired, Stan took to heart something Betty told Hilda - someone she knew had a telly that blew up so the TV people replaced it. So Stan set fire to their telly intending only to give the impression of a bit of damage caused by some short or something - and the whole telly went up in flames. The scene when the telly man arrived was just hysterical. I'm laughing like a drain just remembering it! In the end of course, they didn't get a replacement and Hilda had to find the money to pay for a burnt out telly!
Absolutely Brilliant.

There were no laughs in the peeping tom storyline in the early 70's which involved Stan and that showed they could both do drama as well as comedy,
