I really enjoyed the show, I felt as if I was looking back at my childhood in the 70s and teenage years in the 80s.

I love Hilda, always my favourite Corrie character of all time, so much heart.

Loved it when she went to the Rovers without her headscarf in the evenings and had a port and lemon.

If Hilda was in Corrie nowadays......she would have following storylines written for her:

a) Working in the Knicker Factory and stealing to pay for her betting habit

b) Working in the Bistro and stealing to satisfy her alcohol problem

c) The affair with Ken Barlow

d) The affair with Norris Cole

d) The Cancer Storyline

e) The Rape Storyline

g) The birth daughter she gave up at 15 Storyline

Thank goodness Hilda doesn't appear today in this farce that claims it's a gritty Northern Drama.

As was the comment from the actress who plays Liz saying his amazing it was Jean came in a lady with a posh voice and came out speaking commonly, I wanted to shout at the screen that's acting ! Real acting !

Eddie Yeats, the lodger, was the bin-man, along with Curly and Chalky. Stan was a widow-cleaner.

I normally quite like Bev Callard but I thought exactly the same thing.

But if those things didn't happen then you would get people in here moaning that it's become boring so they can't win either way

To be successful a soap doesn't need headline grabbing shock drama every single episode. Sometimes the simply mundane is just as watchable and probably more realistic.

What I thought was interesting was the fact that despite being in the show for 23 years, we only ever saw two of the Ogdens' four kids. That wouldn't happen these days. Nowadays all four would get shoe-horned in, along with a few extra ones that had been retconned. There's no way someone would be allowed to have had two kids taken into care (before moving to the Street) and not have them tracking down their parents at a later date or the parents looking for them many years later. The writers simply wouldn't be able to resist it (eh, Mary?!).

I prefer the mundane normal episodes myself but if it was like that all the time you can bet some people on here would say it's to boring

I think it would have been entirely possible that the 2 kids would have gone to have a look at no. 13 after the tram crash, possibly even have bought it, as a buy to let, would have provided at least one house with a plausible reason to have a stream of ever changing tennants, I would find that quite satisfying! Irma was my favourite Corrie character ever (reminded me of my auntie, beore she became my least favorite relative!)

Just watched this prog and have to say it's the best bit of TV that I've seen in ages. Corrie was better back in the day when it was character led.

I know we viewers demand far more these days but what's wrong with having a bit of both? A few feuds and slanging matches with some occasional sad/emotional moments all done on a simple level would make Corrie better.

And I don't mean those ridiculous scenes we've seen with the likes of Eileen and Gail fighting, Sally and Yasmeen bitching, the Alahan twins being weird or Norris and Mary babbling on.

Corrie needs to relearn how to do character led stuff.

But thank you Corrie for Jean Alexander and her creation the wonderful Hilda Ogden.

Were Michelle Keegan, Sam Aston and Gemma actress even born when Hilda was in Corrie?

Loved the programme but as others have said it only highlighted how the mighty have fallen. I remember saying the same thing to KK a few months back when an early clip of the McDonald family was shown on something. I can't remember what now.

They're unlikely to do it justice so I'd rather they left well alone. Hilda has little to do with the current s**t they're serving up as Corrie.

Not sure why Julie Goodyear didn't take part in this programme- hope she's OK.

I loved the tribute last night, what a truly wonderful character Jean played and played it so well.

The scene where she opened Stan's belongings is possible the most memorable of her scenes but I was blown away by the scene when she stormed into the Rovers to defend Stan about the peeping Tom claims. That was a powerful scene and her spitting on the floor at the end was just.....wow!!!!

That's probably my favourite dramatic Hilda scene. I find it more powerful than Stan's funeral scenes.

When a lot of Corrie episodes from the 1970s to 1990s were still on Youtube, it included the build up to Stan's death and it was quite sad, especially when seeing Hilda struggling to cope with looking after him and even Billy Walker (who was portrayed as a villain that year) was nice and supportive to her. Very sad scenes acted very well.

One of the best scenes ever. Really highlighted what a very versatile actress Jean was. Her performance during the peeping Tom story was simply sublime.

Trying to think who else (in the current cast) that played along side Hilda but did not appear in the tribute show. Can only think of Gail and Audrey. Maybe Jenny Bradley.

When Margot Bryant (Minnie Caldwell) died, ITV did a tribute and Kenneth Cope (Minnie's 'Sunny Jim' as was!) did the tribute and he referred to Ena, Minnie and Martha.

Which I thought said it all a bit for Corrie back in the day! It was everyday stuff with the odd drama. Now you need a murder a minute! I remember sometime in the 90's Corrie had about 3 deaths in 3 months. When Ernie Bishop was killed in 1978 that was a HUGE storyline and the repercussions were felt for months as it would in real life. Nowadays a murder is forgotten in a week to make way for the next one!

Surely Hilda would want to be buried next to her Stan? I don't think they need to do a funeral episode for her since it's been so long since she left the street, but perhaps show the characters who would have known Hilda going off to the funeral or coming back from it, without actually showing the funeral. Just give it a mention in passing, maybe they could toast her memory in the Rovers and leave it at that.

There were parts of the tribute I thought were very good, but I was disappointed that by the amount of screen time give to the young actors rather than the ones who worked with her, past and present. I appreciate seeing the youngsters' awe over watching Jean playing Hilda, but would have liked to have heard from from those who knew and worked with her.

But it was fabulous seeing the scenes of Hilda. Can you imagine them having a sing-song in the Rovers today, like they did when Hilda left Corrie?
