It was a bit weird tonight watching that episode where Ashley was meeting complete strangers when really they were people he knew but played by different actors

Seriously?

He's dazed and confused because he has dementia. He sees things differently.

But why was he seeing Laurel, Doug, Aaron and Chas as different people. I know Dementia makes you not recognise people. But i dont think it makes people that you used to know look like a different person because if you did not recognise somebodys face you would not automatically see a completely different face would you

They were just using different actors to visually show the effect dementia has had on Ashley.

They were trying to reflect what dementia sufferers go through by not recognising their loved ones and people they've known for years. They might as well be different people. I think that was the point they were making. I thought it was very well done.

Indeed, it's artistic license, and done very well. I thought some of them looked like certain characters, it wasn't until halfway through the episode I realised who they were supposed to be.

He has dementia and can't think straight. He was wearing pyjamas but thought he was wearing trousers and jumper. Everything we saw through Ashley's eyes was because of the dementia.

When I discovered Aaron I then realised who the rest were

I knew Doug was the first driver straight away; it took me a bit longer to spot Aaron though had suspicions even before they flicked to his reflection. From there Chas and Laurel were obvious by joining the dots.

But it was magnificently done.

Yeah I was the same, it was only when we saw Aarons reflection I clicked on.

Have to say it showed a different side to Aaron to that we usually see

I also knew Doug straight away - there was the car sticker (Hotten Horticultural Society) plus he said Laurel had Dottie.

I didn't get the Doug one either, and took me a while for Aaron.

The side that looks physically different?

I thought fake Aaron seemed more caring than real Aaron! That's why I didn't cotton on to who he was until I saw his reflection. I thought fake Doug was the best out of all of them. I knew who he was meant to be as soon as he spoke to Ashley.

I got the doug one just not the Aaron one

I meant the kind, caring selfless one, he could have just left Ashley, in fact most youngsters like Aaron probably would have

I wasn't sure on Aaron for a while he sounded like Pete until he spoke with Chas who I thought might be Bernice.

And Owen come on man

I think it was done brilliantly, it was through Ashley's eyes and his confusion. I did think the guy who supposed to be Aaron was pretty obvious as was Doug.

Yeah I thought it could be Pete at first. Acted and sounded more like him than Aaron. Also why was Aaron at the church in the first place?

Think people were out looking for Ashley; to be honest I can just hear Chas ordering Aaron to go and help!

I loved it, it was great and very clever. Can't imagine any of the other soaps thinking of that idea.

As others were saying, they were showing it from the eyes of a dementia sufferer, how reality becomes distorted and confusing to them. Felt really sorry for Ashley.

Well i did find the way they had done the episode unusual. But reading the posts on this thread. I understand why they did it

Do you think this episode might win Best single episode at the Soap awards

I guessed what they were doing with "Aaron". The actor just looked so much like him. Until then, I wasn't sure what was happening. Fantastic episode. A real tearjerker.

Me too. I was a bit confused to start with. I thought to myself, "It can't be a coincidence that bloke looks so much like Aaron..."
