I thought Ore fans and/or fans of Gene Kelly might be interested in reading this:

What a lovely tribute but it does give the feeling that Ore had to be there.

Again, he deserved the win, he danced best on the night.

ore's showdance was just tom chambers-lite...

but the connect with gene kelly's widow didn't do him any harm.

I actually thought Dannys AS was more Genen Kelly than Ores

Ore just copied a lot of moves from the movie where the Danny AS reminded me of an American in Paris and Gene Kelly

I agree, Danny was the image of Gene in that fabulous number.

I think the Gene Kelly widow connection was just another excuse for Ore to chew his fist and weep dry tears.

There were very little actual dance move connections at all.

The Gene Kelly thing is just nonsense. Ore just copied the moves, Danny actually felt like he captured the spirit of Gene Kelly. The BBC were just obsessed with getting Ore to the final.

A thread which started off as a Pro Ore has now turned into yet another Ore bashing.

I'm sure Pat Kelly probably enjoyed watching Danny's QS routine which was pure vintage Hollywood too even with the mistakes.

I know sad isn't it But that has been the way of the forum this year. I know DS is a snarky place but this year it has been nasty as well.

I admit to feeling sorry for those kill-joys who cannot allow a lovely man like Ore his moment in the sun. It must be awful to be so mean-spirited.

Thank you for the link katmobile! That's a truly lovely and heartening response from her. Glad she got that moment of seeing her husband's influence carry forward. More meme than gene. (Before the kids got hold of it.) Glad Jo and Ore got that personal nod. And good to see she gets the spirit of Strictly so well too

Oh dear, what has the world come to when it's awful to have an opinion?!

This is not the attic, therefore there's no rule that says that the thread has to be completely positive. Some people are remarking that they thought the Gene Kelly comparison would have been more apt for Danny - that's their prerogative to do so, particularly as the first couple of posts in that regard at least gave reasons for thinking so!

Personally, I thought both Ore and Danny's American Smooths evoked old Hollywood (as did Danny's Quickstep and Ore's Viennese Waltz) and I enjoyed them both.

Precisely this. Since Ore won and seemingly got all the marbles with the lovely Gene Kelly tributes from his widow I think it would be gracious to say...ok Ore got a leg up with this being featured in the final (Len's last) and the non-dancer story being pushed to the max this year at least from the semis. It might have been nice alongside her well deserved appreciation for Ore if she could have squeezed a word about the other contestants in the final.

I would love to know when she got her invitation to the final though.

I don't believe I said anything about anyone having an opinion whether yea or nay for Ore. What I DO find sad is the way some posters have to make sly digs and derogatory innuendo. It's simply unnecessary, and yes, I do feel sorry for those patently discontented people.

If I remember correctly you were quite mean-spirited towards Jay.

If you read the article, Mrs Kelly some moves were copied but mostly it was their own choreography just as Gene would have liked.

As a point of interest, Gene and his third wife's marriage makes interesting reading, if true.

Personally I think they should have had a row of widows, one for each (or widowers)

Anyone who loves dance and to dance loves Gene Kelly though and all of the finalists included (and pros and non-finalists and judges) Following on from the semis where there was some definite pro the non-dancer which set the dye for the end of the series...it might have been nice to have had that magical 'connected to Gene Kelly' stardust sprinkled on them all rather than just the chosen one. Ok she loved his dance but that could have been done privately rather than in the final when the voting was open. People love that feelgood feeling, she's come over here especially etc...moreso at Christmas.

I guess it was kudos to the show though and they wanted to make the most of it.

I was admiring how youthful she looked but then discovered she was 47 years his junior

That was why I started to Google!

If half I read was true, it's a sad story for the last stages of a mans life.

I never bashed Ore just said I thought Danny was more like Gene Kelly

dont think there has been anything nasty said

Nothing mean spirited about commenting that I thought Danny was more like Gene Kelly

I don't believe I said anything about anyone having an opinion whether yea or nay for Ore. What I DO find sad is the way some posters have to make sly digs and derogatory innuendo. It's simply unnecessary, and yes, I do feel sorry for those patently discontented people.
No sly digs or derogatory innuendo

I thought Ore's AS was too much like the film and he did not remind me of Gene Kelly but Danny with his semi final dance did remind me of Gene Kelly in An American in Paris without copying any moves or even using the same music
In other word Danny reminded me of Mr Kelly without the advantage of recognisable moves, music and props
Danny also reminded me of when Mr Kelly danced with Cyd Charisse

frankly im getting a bit sick that you cant have any kind of negative opinion about Ore without being jumped on

Ore won the final, its over, he doesnt need all these comments how awful people are by having a different opinion to his fans

It was a gorgeous American Smooth and I thought he did Gene Kelly justice.
