I actually thought Dannys AS was more Genen Kelly than Ores
Ore just copied a lot of moves from the movie where the Danny AS reminded me of an American in Paris and Gene Kelly There was some passing nod to An American in Paris in Danny's, if you're squinting your eyes a lot. But Danny totally failed to capture the ease, control and power of Kelly, in that overwrought and frantic effort, where Danny seemed to be rushing around after Oti. In my opinion. |

And I think precisely the opposite. Ore captured the joy of the piece beautifully and it was exquisitely choreographed, danced and performed.

Mine too. I'm not even a particular fan of Ore but Danny, while often a brilliant dancer, doesn't have the same physical presence of Ore or indeed Gene Kelly, to pull that off.

I agree, Danny was the image of Gene in that fabulous number.

Apologies Slappers, I thought you were talking about Danny's showdance, not his AS.
The AS - mmmmm can't remember, wafty and she threw herself off a shed is all that springs to mind. |

Probably another reason that for most he didn't resemble Gene Kelly at all.

As someone else commented, Danny captured the spirit of Gene, but we all see what we want to see, and nothing, or no one will ever change that.

The Gene Kelly thing is just nonsense. Ore just copied the moves, Danny actually felt like he captured the spirit of Gene Kelly. The BBC were just obsessed with getting Ore to the final.

I grew up on Gene Kelly films, and saw them all the first time around.

I'm sure if Pat Kelly thought Danny's dance was more Kelly's than Ore's she would have said so. She isn't and doesn't need to be in the BBC's pocket.
Come to think of it, if Gene Kelly had been standing there, you'd still argue the point. Get over it Pat complimented Ore and Joanne. |

Ore just copied a lot of moves from the movie where the Danny AS reminded me of an American in Paris and Gene Kelly Exactly this. For me Danny was so reminiscent of GK in that dance, even down to the clothes and the mood. But Ore and Jo certainly garnered all the Gene Kelly homage PR by using moves from the movie routine, and they performed them well. I've no wish to detract from Ore's win at all, but for me Danny & Oti's AS was the dance of the series (except for the leaping off a platform bit at the end, I could have done without that.) |

I personally think her getting involved after Ore did the Singing in the Rain dance was ridiculous. I am sure there are plenty of people in the public eye that have danced to a Gene Kelly number. Don't understand why Ore dancing the routine was such a big deal and no need for her to fly over to watch him dance

It was watched by 10-11 million people in one of the biggest entertainment markets in the world. I'm sure she's familiar with the power of a good advert. Making a big deal of it is part of her job - she's primarily concerned with "furthering the legacy". She's done the same thing in America with both So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With The Stars, and she already has pretty good links with the whole network of contacts the show operates within.

Gene and Fred were different, but I loved them both. Ann Miller was my favourite tap dancer, and if you liked her in On The Town, you will love her in Kiss Me Kate. I remember seeing it at The Empire Leicester Square in 1953, and it was shown in 3D.

Well that's lovely. But this is her point of view and it's a subject she has a very unique perspective of. So not exactly nonsense.
