It was watched by 10-11 million people in one of the biggest entertainment markets in the world. I'm sure she's familiar with the power of a good advert. Making a big deal of it is part of her job - she's primarily concerned with "furthering the legacy". She's done the same thing in America with both So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With The Stars, and she already has pretty good links with the whole network of contacts the show operates within.
The link to Ore's dance was sent to her by someone else. She may have seen Danny's but I doubt it. It was obvious the BBC were pushing the Ore/Gene Kelly storyline.

Why would they send her a link of Danny's dance or anyone else's in the show? It was Ore dancing to her late husband's famous tune.

Because they think that Danny should have had the Gene Kelly tag...because Ore isn't allowed to have anything that Danny doesn't get...what a tiring way to live.

Ore's allowed whatever he wants. It's just that Danny showed week in week out that he had the old school Hollywood charm of Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire.

Well yes, but also if it had been me, I would've sent her the dancer who was actually dancing like her husband and not somebody who just used his song and copied his dance moves.

Personally, I don't think Danny particularly danced like Gene. He hasn't got the same presence and physicality. Danny is a lovely dancer and I liked to watch him best but the link is just not there.

Well if the stories are true about her relationship with Gene, I really don't care what she thinks. Horrid woman.
I was always told IF is a very big word. You're very judgemental about someone you don't know. Who really knows what goes on in someone's life.

Would your view of her be different if it'd been Danny and not Ore she complimented.

Up until Strictly I'd never heard of Danny (or Ore and Louise) but he seems a nice guy and I think he'd be horrified at the lengths you're going to to support him. He's moved on to new things and probably better things.

But it wasn't you. Just someone well known from the dancing world.

Again, I'm not bothered about Danny not winning now. I'm pleased he's gone straight into a musical role which he will be great in.

My point was just that Ore was only superficially like Gene Kelly in copying choreography and music, whereas I thought Danny actually captured it.

And yes, I'd feel the same way if Danny had done Ore's dance routine and she complemented it.

I don't really like her anyway for a variety of reasons. IF is a big word but several independent people all say the same thing about her.

Agree with you on this part. Almost everything I've read has been pretty damning. Including from his first wife Betsi, who had no call for rancour. Apart from maybe the exclusion of her children in his life.

when you dislike someone you don't know so much, when everything they do, and any people associated with them, however remotely or tenuously, has to be rubbished; it strongly suggests to me that the problem is much closer to home.

Meh. Some people are blessed with generosity of spirit, some aren't. 'Twas ever thus.

In that vein, I'd like to wish all posters a peaceful and stress-free Christmas.

Whatever the actual facts behind it all, it just seems that an amazing man, life and career had a very sad and abrupt end. How odd not to even have a memorial service.

I find that terribly sad also the alleged blocking of a memorial statue. People are strange

the link to Ore and Jo's dance was not sent to Pat Kelly by just anybody it was Sir matthew Bourne the choreographer (who certainly knows dance) he also accompanied her to the strictly final - IF he had thought Danny was more like Gene surely he would have linked him instead?

Did Danny dance to the the iconic Gene Kelly Singing in the Rain?

David Bowie chose to have a private funeral and memorial service and his family, whom he much loved and who loved him, honoured his wishes. Some people believe you pay your respects to a person when they are alive. It is too late when they are dead. And Gene Kelly's films are his best memorial as they show him at his best.

Personally, I'd rather the whole tradition of big funerals did not exist, but accept that for others they are an important part of the mourning process and rebuilding links with family members .

As has been stated, it was Matthew Bourne who brought Ore's performance to the attention of Gene Kelly's wife. Ore's performance was a natural choice since Singing in the Rain was Kelly's iconic performance, by far the most well known. Some of the comments on this thread are remarkably mean spirited.
