Just been looking at some old ones on YouTube.

Just wondered if they are still made by broadcasters?

I'd be amazed if they could get away with 10% of what they did on those tapes now!

I'm honestly surprised that the anti BBC nut jobs that infest this site haven't seized the opportunity to create a Winterville TVL based thread.

When the Christmas Tapes were made and also Jonathan Hewitt's Blooper tapes, the out-takes were collected by people for their own amusement and sharing. But then lots of programmes of out-takes started on TV and I got the impression it could be more profitable to get something wrong and sell the out-takes.

Yup Actors/Actresses do get residuals if their out-take is broadcast

In the early days of videotape (late 1950s) tape was very expensive and doing edits was avoided at all costs, programmes being recorded ''as live.'' When actors fluffed there was the danger of the mistake being left in so some pretty strong language would have to be used to ensure recording stopped and/or the programme was edited. On more than one occasion unedited programmes complete with fluffs were actually broadcast, either by accident or design

I do actually quite like it while watching old programmes where the actor has obviously said the wrong thing or forgotten their lines. It's especially fun in comedies where they have lost it but still don't laugh.
