I think he's being an idiot towards Bex. Why doesn't he just go and talk to her if he wants to get back with her? He behaves like such a spoiled brat at times. I am wondering if Louise is try to split them up because she wants to get with Shakil. I think Louise should let Bex make her own mind up on what to do about him. She's too soft with Louise at times.

I think he's portraying a teenage boy pretty well.

As for the hair.. In real life wouldn't a boy with a hairstyle like that be mercilessly mocked by everyone at school and out of it? And constantly nagged about it by his mother? To put up with that and keep it like that he'd have to be quite remarkably selfconfident, the reverse of the way the character comes across.”

I have seen a guy at my school who has hair like Shakil

when shaki saw bex talking to Louise just after they'd slept together and laughing, I think he thought they were laughing at him. That could explain his behaviour towards her.

Not everyone is spelling it wrong.

Maybe because it's not an everyday name. I'd have thought it was easier to spell wrong.

I absolutely loathe him but for me that means he's playing the part well. The only bit that doesn't work for me is what Bex saw in him in the first place. As some of you have said, he's been a surly, monosyllabic idiot from day one. He has none of Kush's charm. But, it's a good representation of a certain type of teenage boy. That said, he needs to have his moment of revelation and stop being a complete idiot sooner rather than later as it will wear very thin.

Are all teenage boys like Shakil? I wasn't and neither were any of my friends.

Are you really having trouble seeing this from multiple perspectives?

I personally do have sympathy for Shakil because as I said in a previous thread - it's clear this is down to his immaturity and extreme insecurity. From that combination it's obvious why he cannot communicate his thoughts and feelings properly and therefore has resorted to utterly freezing Rebecca out making her feel like crap.

I just thought from you saying you didn't understand the fuss, you didn't see why this is so hard on Rebecca.

Hi Elle,

No I do *think I understand what the writers are attempting with the story, it's the FM's utter hatred towards a youngster that baffles me. I understand that the character isn't too likeable at present but really some of the vilification on here, and personal comments about appearance and such like, which, are in effect directed at the actor himself have been very unpleasant in my opinion.

I hasten to add that I would not include your own comments in that bracket but my post wasn't aimed at yourself.

Thanks

No worries, I was just being sensitive because of some posts in the other days episode thread by a certain poster. I agree with you btw.

I've never been a fan of his but like I've said previously after they'd had sex he sees bex laughing with Louise and I'm assuming he thought it was at him, obviously we know they weren't but the look on his face told me he was hurt.

I realise.

That's why I said it was a combination of immaturity and insecurity. He is immature in his inability to communicate, at all. He stayed quiet for days about seeing the girls laughing but never mentioned it to Rebecca, who would obviously reassured him that wasn't what he thought.

I didn't like everything he did leading up to it especially sending the photo and putting pressure on her to do the same and also calling her fridged. Like you say though he's immature and insecure like a lot of teenagers. A simple conversation with bex would clear it all up.

No, I wasn't excusing any of that, so the dislike toward him is understandable. I know Kush and Carmel tried to speak to Shakil at times about how to approach the situation more sensitively. I also know that kind of talk can be hard to take as seriously when other boys at school are probably all talking about sex and insinuating you're a loser if you haven't. I guess maybe the storyline is trying to highlight these issues to some extent.

I don't particularly care for the character, but that doesn't stop evaluating the situation/storyline.

He plays a 16 year old and to me it comes across very convincing. Don't think he was just out for sex from his own will but from peer pressure from the smartphone generation, there were many scenes where Bex and he said the whole school talked about them.
And Kush's charm, sorry but Kush is just like Max, it is extremely hard to believe he was so into Shabnum when you look at him today, don't find him attractive at all either
