I could not agree more.
What a stupid thing to broadcast when terrorists are looking for ways to carry out their wicked deeds .
Why are you planning big atrocities when one person is enough .
I hope all heavy goods drivers keep their vehicles locked and have a good look around themselves before getting into their trucks.
If I was a truck driver I would be out buying a good defensive weapon.
Try and get my truck you have got a fight on your hands.

The BBC by saying what they said were effectively giving a warning to truck drivers and repeating something that the police and security services had been saying.

As for truck/lorry drivers, they already keep their trucks as secure as possible - theft from and of them is a big problem, as is hijacking and a hundred and one other issues, however there are hundreds of thousands of them which means anyone meaning ill has plenty of chances.
I would also point out the "defensive" weapons don't do you much good at all if you're not expecting an attack, and even the likes of the Police in America get caught off guard and killed at times.

The use of a truck in such an incident has been known to be a risk for years, and is just one of many many ways a terrorist can cause a major incident or kill people using things you can get access to easily (I can think of a few things that could be used and would probably be worse than a truck yet probably easier to steal).

The US and other governments have been aware of the risk of them being used to breach secure perimeters in order to do a rolling attack or truck bomb for at least 15-20 years, long enough for specialist defences to have been developed for us in places like embassies (solid steel tubes that are buried about 6-12 foot into concrete, with some versions designed so that they can be lowered to allow traffic through, but when raised will stop a 40ton truck moving at 50mph), as well as the more traditional heavy concrete block type barriers (similar to what you see as protection around roadworks)

The terrorists aren't all stupid, and their leaders/smarter guys know how dangerous many things are that we take for granted, and the likes of the security services have entire departments who look at such things to help protect their own countries (a semi smart terrorist can find materials to use in virtually any commercial premises, factory, or supermarket, a terrorist with the equivalent of an A level education in chemistry can make explosives and more advanced weapons out of such materials, whilst others could do it rote if they were given a recipe)
Some friends and I have had some conversations that could probably have put us all on watch lists when we've talked about how farcical a lot of security is against people who don't care if they get out alive and how even just things like cars could be misused, let alone commonly available chemicals or other materials.

Trucks are just an easy and obvious choice as there are so many of them on the roads, and no one pays any real attention to them.

So what do you suggest, no one know what is going on and we live in a controlled world like the Chinese who are not even taught their own history in school and have to come to the west to learn about it. News is news and your suggestion is backward looking.

So you would have preferred not to know about this sort of attack so you can't protect yourself

Unfortunately, news is not news.
What you hear about on the TV or radio, or read about in the papers is selected for you by other people who often want to put across a particular message. Often what is written is true, but major parts of the story may been omitted to guide people in following the preferred line. These days there also seems to be an issue with the press not checking stories before publishing them in an attempt to beat social media, and there are countless examples where time spent checking would have changed the story being given. In the worst cases the news will be subverted to propaganda by giving a very distorted version of the facts or in some cases publishing made up news that fits with what they want people to think.

Treat all news with suspicion, look at alternative sources and come to your own conclusions.

It must be exciting in the Smudge house checking every news item all day long and then coming up with your own conclusion.

You must go through quite a bit of tinfoil

Good old Sheepy. Making it personal again instead of replying to the point. Just stick to everything the BBC tells you and stay calm

Well your point was entirely tinfoil. Treat ALL news with suspicion????

Really, ALL news, storm Barbara is approaching and the BBC lead with this on the news tonight, should I check this with Twitter or just take my dog out in my Speedos because ALL news is suspicious?

I think I get your gist but as usual you take it a wee bit too far.

With the 911 exception, the terrorists have been slow witted, but they have now picked up on whats dumb and whats not. There's now no real gain if the BBC tells them what they have already worked out.

So why are you only "upset" with the BBC?”

The bbc for obvious reasons should be held to a higher standard than those other news outlets.

Congratulations on your brilliant reductio ad absurdum. Hope it makes you feel appropriately superior.

I think someone using Latin and claiming someone else is acting superior deserves a wee smiley

So it's ok for - to take an example - the heil to show footage of the truck being driven into people but not for the BBC to report that IS have been encouraging folk to use trucks to commit murder even though other media outlets are reporting the same.
