The Mrs Brown's Boys Appreciation Thread
This is an appreciation thread for Mrs Brown's Boys - i.e, positive comments only. I know this show is very marmite and therefore liked and loathed in equal measure (more so than any other comedy today, from what I've seen), so I thought it'd be a good idea to start a thread for positive comments only.

I don't see why it is disliked so much, it is one of the funniest comedies in recent years. I didn't like the live show much, but I always look forward to the Christmas/New Year specials.
The only downside is that there are no current plans for a full series. |

I quite liked the live episode. Not much different to normal episodes in terms of the actors corpsing but I think it being live added something.
I don't think it's the best written sitcom, I think other sitcoms are stronger. But, it makes me laugh more than most and that's what's most important. Looking at the viewing figures many seem to agree (even if it was higher a few years ago). |

The Christmas special where Mrs Brown uses spray glue instead of air freshener was absolutely hilarious, I was in tears watching that 😂😂😂.

A memorable moment from last year was Mrs Brown mistaking a sex toy for a whisk; the horror on her face as she found out... ![]() The Christmas tree gags never fail to disappoint. The most recent one with the boxing gloves was brilliant.

MBB's is a strange one for me. I actually think the plots are appallingly written (such as when a story is dragged out for 29 minutes and 30 seconds and is wrapped up by one line from someone right before the credits) and the scripted ad-libs, lines written to deliberately trip someone up (linguistically) and the 'accidental' cameras in shot make me cringe, but the actors and the characters they play are so damn likeable and the overall style so un-ashamedly foul-mouthed and about as far removed from your typical family based sitcom as you can get, I can't help but love it.

A brave thread, OP. Mrs. Brown's Boys gets a lot of unnecessary flack, but it's a cosy, familiar comedy that can be enjoyed by everyone.
I was extremely lucky enough to be at this year's Xmas recording. So many people had applied for tickets, I think the odds were like that of the Lottery. I really recommend seeing it recorded live, it's a whole different atmosphere! |

As said, like them, my only complaint if I can say it on this thread, is they are repeated too often. You have to check a listings magazine to ensure what's new what's not. The Christmas Day one is repeated the following Saturday.

One thing I think MBB does well, but doesn't get much credit for, is the occasional heartwarming and emotional moments. One of the Christmas episodes ends with Agnes playing her father's old music box and telling her grandson a bedtime story. No comedy, no errors, just a purely heartwarming scene that always chokes me up.

The first of the two 2012 Christmas specials (Mammy Christmas) is being repeated tonight on BBC One at 22:45 after the news.

I love all the episodes, but one of my favourites is where she uses the bikini wax strips in the toilet under the stairs, with Winnie shouting instructions to her. Then afterwards Buster stamping on the hairy wax strip to 'kill it'.

Another laugh out loud Christmas Day special with the usual touches of warmth near the end.
No doubt it will top the ratings yet again! |

As I can't find the show thread itself - thought tonight's epsiode was excellent; nothing was too forced or pushed, it was judged superbly from start to it in lines of comedy with enough of a nod to Agnes' true affection towards Grandad. The little twists with the leaflet drop and the Christmas tree were well judged and, well, maybe I'm a bit slow but caught me offguard even if I knew it'd work out positively.
Enjoyed every moment of it. |

I enjoyed it a lot, not a spectacular Christmas episode but very good nonetheless (for some reason, the New Year episode always seems slightly better).

Its truly hilarious, i almost have a coronary ever time i watch it. Probably the funniest tv show ever. Some people just don't get the subtle, intelligent humour, but that's their loss.
Huge ratings because its a big hit...... just like The Sun newspaper and McDonalds, they are popular because they are brilliant. You cant argue against the numbers of viewers, readers, customers. Long may it continue....... it will go down in the annals of tv comedy history. |
