While maybe nothing will EVER beat Agnes using the dildo as a whisk... there were still enough funny moments in this year's first special to make it a good one!

Glad we have a thread to enjoy MBB and not have the whino's moaning over it.
90% of the whining over MBB is because its a BBC show and people get this inflated sense of self importance because of its BBC home and think they can tear it to shreds for the hell of it when most haven't seen a second of it.

Fav episode has to be the live episode. he always tried to make them laugh in the stage versions, you just knew he'd do the same in the TV live broadcast and he did, it was brilliant and i hope the BBC have the stones to do another.
Not seen the Christmas ep yet, will watch tomorrow, looking forward to it!

Bearing in mind this was the sixth consecutive MBB Christmas special, the standard is holding up amazingly well. Not many famous sitcoms have even managed six Christmas specials, so the show has already secured itself a place in the annals (and there are plenty more specials to come from Brendan).

Biggest laugh was when the new Bono called Mrs Brown Grandad and then the four dogs in the pub!

So much better than Les Dawson......... and the way they say f eck is a million times better than the way is was ever said in Father Ted.
its like being loads more original than the way other people did it...... pure genius.

It is, he is just growing.
Played by Brendans grand son, the son of Buster Brady (AKA Danny O'Carroll) and Betty Brown (AKA Amanda Woods)

Being on BBC has nothing to do with people liking MBB or not. You'd get the same comments if it was on ITV or C4. It's a marmite show, you either love it or hate it. People who don't like it will have at least seen the trailers and got what the show is about.

As I can't find the show thread itself - thought tonight's epsiode was excellent; nothing was too forced or pushed, it was judged superbly from start to it in lines of comedy with enough of a nod to Agnes' true affection towards Grandad. The little twists with the leaflet drop and the Christmas tree were well judged and, well, maybe I'm a bit slow but caught me offguard even if I knew it'd work out positively.

Enjoyed every moment of it.
No show thread but good that there wasn't - you wouldn't want to post in there! I agree - really good episode.

Another good Christmas episode. I think they can hold the standard as they haven't been recording full seasons through the years lately. (Although I do appreciate they're constantly on tour).

I enjoy the comedy, the touching moments and all of the characters. There isn't one character I sigh at coming on screen.

I look forward to the New Year episode.

Long may it continue!

So it was real life dad helping real life son in the second homework scene? Didn't realise that! I knew Brendan was his real life Grandad - the slip up was brilliant.

I wish Dermot had been given a really complicated line to deliver... maybe that will be in the New Year episode.

I like the way they handled it as well - I know they leave in the outtakes in this show but you don't normally see a young actor handling a fluffed line that well.

It was nice to have some of a sentimental moment between Agnes and Granddad and the Christmas tree gag definitely caught me off guard - it was nice for her not to electrocuted this time round! Nice to have a song at the end as well, I think they've missed that for a while.

I remember one of the specials a few years ago where Brendan's phone goes off and blames it on Rory.

Great late night comedy which doesn't take itself too seriously. I love that it's mostly just one big family too, I think it adds a little extra to the show.

Miles ahead of any other BBC comedy over the last few years.

This was being said three or four years ago, that the show was running out of steam and wasn't as funny as it once was. I'd disagree though, I think the standard has held up very well.

The only bit I don't get was the fact the Wash & Blow Salon was on fire and they had to move it into Mrs Brown's house. Aside from that bit there didn't seem to be much continuity.

Was a bit disappointed tbh. The only bit I thought was genuinely funny was the Xmas tree incident. I do agree with those that feel the show has perhaps run its course.

Brendan is contracted to produce two Christmas specials a year up to and including 2020
