I have to admit that I personally wouldn't rule out the worst and I think there is cause for concern - a 90 year old woman being flu-ridden for 2 weeks and counting is always pretty worrying.
However, I do think that in the ages we're in, were the Queen in a very, very serious state, some opportunist member of staff would have passed it on to the press. I'm pretty sure that when she dies the news will break/be circulating on social media before it's announced properly. I wish her well, in any case. |

I think that may not be the alternative. There may be a plan in place for it to go straight to Wills. Otherwise the Queen would have retired years ago and passed the baton to Charlie then.

I honestly think a reason she has never stepped down is she doesn't trust Charlie with it.
Part of the coronation is about how the new monarch's subjects were given to them by God to rule and govern. To abdicate, therefore, would be to contradict the perceived will of God. |

She's never abdicated because she's devoutly religious.

That maybe so but in this day and age no-one expects a 90 year old woman to work full-time. She would have abdicated if she felt her successor could be trusted.
I personally think it's a silly idea to abdicate unless she had some sort of serious issue that meant she couldn't do the job in any way. Given that she's done the job for 63 years she might as well run the course, as long as she's happy to. |

The whole point of hereditary monarch by primogeniture is that it's a lottery of birthright. It would take an act of Parliament to disinherit Charles and would probably be unconstitutional.

She won't abdicate. It's nothing about trusting her successor; it's about her commitment to God. |

They don't need to do that if Charles willingly abdicates - and they certainly wouldn't even raise the idea if Charles wasn't willing.

She hasn't been seen for 10 days now... I'm beginning to fear that "a heavy cold" might be a euphemism...
Wouldn't she have had the flu jab? |

Did you read what I wrote?
She won't abdicate. It's nothing about trusting her successor; it's about her commitment to God. That may be her public reason she's not really going to say it's because she trusts Charlie about as much as a 3 year old left alone with a Chocolate Cake. |

Having waited over 60 years for the top job I doubt he'd willingly skip his place now!

Unlike most 90 year olds she'll have instant access to the top doctors in the land. They are probably pumping her full of antibiotics

![]() Having said that, William seems even less keen and I think Harry would actually turn it down. I think the Queen could very well be the last of the "great" monarchs, really. |

Not aimed at you personally, just a general observation - but I've never understood this idea that Charles is impatiently awaiting his turn. To be honest he seems quite happy in his role as professional busybody and has never struck me as particularly eager to be the monarch.

That means she's putting down the ones who have abdicated saying they weren't as good as her.
That may be her public reason she's not really going to say it's because she trusts Charlie about as much as a 3 year old left alone with a Chocolate Cake. You're seriously underestimating how important her faith, and thus by extension her "God-given birthright", is to her. |

You're projecting your own thoughts about Charles onto the Queen - I can't see what evidence there might be to suggest this is the case.
Over all though I'd sooner just get rid of the lot of them. |

Of course when she saw what happened to her beloved Father, who became King after an abdication it was a very personnel commitment. |

So not only does she belive herself better than all of us but of all the Monarchs who stepped down as they failed in her opinion.
