She won't be Princess Catherine as she is not a born Royal. She will be Catherine Princess of Wales. Diana was never Princess Diana, she was Diana Princess of Wales.
Her title comes from Prince William. He is a Prince so she is a Princess. But Duke/Duchess trumps Prince/Princess so she is The Duchess of Cambridge.
If he were still just Prince, she would be Princess William of Wales.

Diana was The Princess of Wales whilst she was married and Diana, Princess of Wales after she divorced - to formally distinquish her from Camilla who was properly entitled to be called The PoW, even though she didn't use the title. And she was always referred to as Princess Diana informally.

I think they make a lot of it up as they go along.

Happy New Year BR

If she outlives William and George succeeds then she'll be the King Mother. If, for some reason, Charlotte succeeds then she'll be the Queen mother.
I do wonder what would happen if George had a sex change though.

She might become the Kings Mother if William becomes King and then dies before her with George becoming King. She would only become the Queen Mother if George dies/abdicates childless and her daughter (forget the childs name) becomes Queen.

What a very tasteless article. Clearly a journalist with nothing better to do at this time of the year.

The truth is that what happens after her eventual death have been planned for many years by the Royal Family, the government, civil service the BBC and everyone else and is regularly practiced. For those in the need to know it is called "Operation London Bridge" (the Queen Mother was "Operation Tay Bridge")

She won't be the King Mother. It's a common misconception that the late Queen Mother was so called because she was 'mother of the Queen'. Actually it was because she was already Queen Consort, so when Princess Elizabeth became Queen, 'Queen Mother' was coined to differentiate between the two Queens. Alternatively she could have been called the Dowager Queen, but unusually there were 3 Queens in 1952 - Queen Mary was still alive and she was the Dowager Queen of George V, so to avoid confusion the widowed Queen Elizabeth was called Queen Mother.

Apparently that is not true either; the term has been around since at least 1577.

You are right though that the Queen bit does not refer to mother of a Queen but Mother of a Monarch.

Edit I guess the clue is it is not Queen's Mother but Queen Mother. Buck House must pay someone to sort out all this nonsense.

So when she cops it they will say London Bridge Has Fallen Down

Surely it's the other way round? Prince/Princess is a higher rank than Duke/Duchess.

I would have thought so too. But that would mean he got demoted on the day he got married. Prince Edward will inherit DoE when Phiip goes so it must be a promotion. And senior title will always prevail so he they wouldn't be referred to as D & D formally if P & P were higher rank.

Do you think there'll be a marked rise in people getting King Charles spaniels after the coronation of the Crown Prince?

Yes, that seems to be correct, as apparently the UK has a rank known as a "Royal Duke", which is a title senior to "Prince." Who knew? And it's all rather silly!

She won't be going to church today either.

She's either dead or on the proverbial death bed.

Or just an elderly lady unable to throw off a cough and cold as easily as she used to. It really can knock an elderly person down to have a simple upper respiratory infection it's why we are encouraged to have flu jabs, colds and flu can be worse for an older person.

I hope he will be Charles III and not George VII.

We all know him as Charles after all, so to change name as King would seem absurd.

Of course it's not beyond the realms of possibility that the Queen could outlive her son.

I don't think it's a simple cold. Philip was Ill too and now he's up and about and hes even older and always looks far more frail than she is. He's been in and out of hospital a fair bit recently so his health is generally not as good anyway. Whatever it is she has that's keeping her from simply going to church it isn't just a cold but we will never know anyway. Can't go upsetting the masses.

At 90 fighting colds isnt easy and can be deadly. She has obviously been advised to rest at home. If it was anything more serious they would have her in the Royal hospital.
