She made a vow before God to represent this country until her death. Stepping down is not an option for her.
She could take the George III option which is to remain monarch but effectively retire and have Charles as Prince Regent.

This is a pointless discussion really. The people that dislike/hate the fact that we have a Royal family, will always think that. Which is fair enough.

The country as a whole is currently around 70 or so percent in favor of the Royals. The Queen herself probably has a higher rating. I know people who like and support the Queen, but don't much like any of the others.

When the Queen is no longer with us the support for Royals will probably drop somewhat, but not by a large amount is my guess.

I wonder whether the queen would be privately insulted or feel snubbed if her son rejected his primary birth name on beconing monarch
1) She would be dead at the time.
2) Both her father and uncle did the same thing.

Why do you expect Charles to be bad as King? You say the Queen "doesn't do anything" apart from waving and going to dinner parties - if so then how could anyone possibly be bad at that?

If you think Charles will be bad because he will interfere with politics then you need to decide what kind of Monarch you'd prefer - one who keeps quiet or one who speaks out. You can't critics the Queen for doing nothing but then say Charles will be bad because he will be active.
I prefer his views on faith as he wanted to be Defender Of The Faiths rather than he just CoE.

But overall I would sooner the Royal family be abolished.

Depends what's cancelled on TV really if it's Wrestling or Doctor Who I may have a little cry myself.
Everything and I mean EVERYTHING will be cancelled for over a week. No soaps, no new charts announced, no other news, only calming ballads on radio. Far more disruption than when Diana died. This is the Head Of State.

We'll all have to do our best North Korea crying impressions when the BBC cameras roll around as well.

I don't see how things on Sky could be cancelled as we pay for that.

But there is always streaming services I have WWE Network Netflix and Amazon.

As for BBC as I said the only thing I watch on BBC is Doctor who and WOS Wrestling was the first time I've watched ITV in years if they get cut off it won't bother me.

I'm sure there'll still be other news, but there'll be less of it. And I expect Neighbours will still be on!

Yes she would be dead but I am assuming that it would be something that has already been discussed and decided upon.

Mark I did lower myself to reading the article on the Queens daily life despite your condescending tone. No earth shattering surprises in there. Ooh she reads the newspapers at breakfast newsflash so do a majority of educated people. The audience with the PM totally undocumented so mere citizens are not allowed to know how the monarch seeks to interfere with the running of the country.

Reading and signing official papers - autographing a few papers is something we could train a monkey to do if we really needed it, so she studies them good for her but she can't refuse to sign off a bill for an Act of Parliament without causing chaos so why does this part of the role need to exist.

I also bet you could count on one hand the number of meals she has prepared for her family in her adult life

I'm also in favour of abolishing the Monarchy, but I'm not sure what the relevance of your last remark is.

The fact that she is required to read papers is what has probably kept her from mentally sharp. That's why elderly people are encouraged to do soduku and puzzles - it helps to prevent age-related dementia.

Well I wouldn't want to have had to sit through the Royal Variety Performance for inteminable number of years trying to pretend it was entertaining.

She might also have to schmooze with the horror that is the Donald very soon. That alone means she deserves every penny that she's been given over the past 90 years, frankly.

Why though ? What would be the point in cancelling everything ?

No soaps on TV sounds great - and I haven't cared about who was in the charts since I was about 16.

Just in terms of people talking up how busy her life is I am pointing out that unlike 99% of the population cooking and washing up has never been something she or the rest of her family has had to fit into their schedule.

Given how low chart sales are these days with Online sales counting I would be 100% certain God save the queen by the Sex Pistols will be number one in the week she snuffs it, only question to be answered is whether this time around the tv and radio shows have the moral courage and integrity to actually reflect the public's wishes and play the song at the end of the chart rundown

Nor do most rich people. It's a boring pain in the arse.

Dearie me...

It's a bit disgusting how some people on here are desperate for her to go. They might not be explicitly saying it, but you can tell by the tone of their posts.
Think of the posts what you will, it's clear you will read too much into them regardless.

What has that actually got to do with anything? Many wealthy people have chefs/housekeepers etc.

Many men have wives that do that and never do it themselves.

Many people are just lazy and only eat microwave meals or fast food

Its just unrelevant ands sounds like jealousy

Could have said both Lawler and Lizzy removed from their position.

And I'm not sure why people are pretending it's still just a cold. I'm sorry but I've never know "just a cold" to keep someone down for 12 days and that's only since she didn't go on the train journey, so it must have been with her for a few days previous to that. If she has had "just a cold" for over two weeks now when most people, even in their 90s can shake it off in about a week at most, then there is something else wrong that is affecting her ability to heal from "just a cold". She has been kept indoors and is resting, presumably she is on all kinds of cold medication and has been for some days now, she has the perfect healing environment for much longer than is needed...but isn't healing. That's not right. It's not "just a cold"

I don't really care for rolling news about every sneeze as some people put it, but it's the lies and secrecy surrounding it all that's stupid. If they can't pluck up the courage to tell the nation she is more than just a little bit poorly then what the hell is going to happen when she does die?
I do take the point, however, that she might have developed a bad cough, which can carry on for several weeks. Could be embarrassing in public. Either way, let's hope Her Majesty's gets well soon.
