It's going to be such an enormous event when she dies. Blanket coverage for days, all the major TV channels will stop normal programming. Everyone will feel it, whether you're a monarchist or republican. .
Thankfully we have netflix, dvds and binge watching options these days. I think it will be avoidable.

You have my deepest sympathies.

So what are "security issues" in your world?
They could sneeze and infect people. That would be very very bad. If it was one of the heirs it would obviously merit a newsflash and constant coverage.

Not sure why this should stop them travelling.

Let's face it - they won't exactly have to schlep down to the train station and struggle through the crowds and stand from Liverpool Street all the way to Norfolk.

They would be vitually wrapped in warm cotton wool the entire journey from door to door with people to do everything for them.

Don't get me wrong. I have the highest regard for The Queen and The DoE.

I am surprised ( going by what I have heard on the news ) that their travel schedule is quite so widely known in advance that an announcement had to be made because they missed a specific train.

They had the big family Christmas dinner at Buck House yesterday evening
She's probably got a hangover
As the family all gather at Sandringham for Christmas I wonder why they need two Christmas dinners. You can have too many sprouts

Hopefully she survives to the summer so our day's holiday is warm.
Most people get to chose the time of their holidays these days.

I think you are missing the point. Extra bank holiday for monarchs funeral. Why waste that over Xmas. I hope she gets better and lasts through to spring at least.

Half the UK are down with colds atm so they're not alone and with the best doctors in the country I'm sure they'll be fine. They won't want to be passing it on to young George and Charlotte either!

Perhaps they heard that Andrew was already there and plastering the place with posters in support of his daughters "special position"

Do you think she can get a refund on the train tickets for herself and Phil as it was probably quite expensive. I expect unlike Corbyn she had got reserved seats so they did not have to stand and they could sit together in a seat and not on the floor.

Poor corbyn, sitting on the floor when he could have sat on the seats

I think HM has her own train? Is it still in use?

They have the Buckingham Palace dinner because all of the family don't gather at Sandringham for Christmas.

Perhaps they heard that Andrew was already there and plastering the place with posters in support of his daughters "special position"
You're still going with the Mail's lies?

She's decorating the tree herself this year.

She's given it an OBE.

Of course it could be a security issue,
This was my first thought when I heard the news. Them both having colds is convenient.

No. You are missing the point. Her funeral would not be held at Christmas. A suitable date would be chosen to give time for all preparations.

Think of all those Press photographers at King's Cross and King's Lynn Stations all straining to get pictures of the Royal Couple and they did not turn up. Probably more miffed as another photo opportunity has gone kaput as William, Kate, George and Charlotte will not be attending the Church walk at Sandingham Chistmas morning.

If the Queen and Phil do not turn up poor Harry could be at Sandringham on his own pulling his own personal Royal cracker as his girlfriend is in USA
